Tuesday with Tara {take 418} Immense Joy

Happy Tuesday!  Today I’m sharing a card I created last year, but never shared here on the SNS blog!  It features the fabulous Immense Joy die by Penny Black- I hope you like it!

I fell in love with this bold JOY die & immediately saw it as a frame for what I hoped would be quick & easy cards… paired with the sweet Holly Berry Birds stamp, it seemed a bit of an odd combination since both items essentially fill a card front.  I didn’t want to eliminate the pretty holly branches, so I chose to try my hand at the spotlight technique.  Since Kraft is my favorite neutral, I started there and added some bling with a glittery die cut.
It took some trial and error to get everything lined up… next time I’ll use my stamping platform to keep things straight!  But I did some quick coloring with watercolor pencils on this one.  The stamp was inked in black and stamped both on the Kraft background panel and again on white, then die cut from the JOY die to get the best fit inside the open “O”.

I look forward to seeing what other stamped images will fit inside that big open space.  It’s so much fun to mix and match older & newer products, especially with Christmas when you have favorites that are only used once a year!

Inky hugs,

Tara

Tuesday with Tara {take 386} Love You More Than Coffee

Happy Tuesday!  I’m sharing another throwback card this week, this one takes me back several years and came to mind as I was thinking about projects that would work for non-traditional Valentine’s Day cards!  The sentiment here is so fun with a variety of coffee images, and just happened to come with this fabulous one by Penny Black.

And now let me jump in and show you my card!  I fell in love with this cutie from Penny Black “Saying a Latte” and have been saving her- I’ve been out of practice coloring with my Copic Markers, except for small images, but she was a fun one to play with!  I actually have 2 cards featuring her to share (since I colored a backup “just in case I mess up” image as well).  Since I knew coloring was going to take a bit of time, I kept the rest of my design pretty simple- stamping my sentiment on a panel die cut with MFT’s Stitched Edge die.  I also just got the  gradient square stencil by Tim Holtz and the angles seemed like a perfect match!

I used a mix of Distress Oxides on the stenciled details, but I’m not even positive of all the colors because I used a dirty ink blending tool. LOL. (note to self- buy more blending foams!)  I knew the Cracked Pistachio would match my die cut panel, but the rest was just trial and error! I figure you really can’t go wrong with a mix of blues & greens- they are my happy colors!  A few pearl details & twine added some subtle embellishments to my simple card.

And here’s one last pic with the two cards together- the other is free of embellishments, but very similar in design!

You can tell this is an older card since it also features an older watermark… but great stamps & creative cards will stand the test of time!  Whether it’s a new-to-you card or you’ve seen it before, I hope you like it!  Bonus- the stamp & stencil are both still available to purchase in the SNS store!  Happy shopping!

Inky hugs,

Tara

Tuesday with Tara {take 384} A Paper Hug

Happy Tuesday!  Today I’m sharing a quick & easy mini slimline card inspired by the Paper Hug sentiment stamp by Picket Fence stamps!  I’ve paired the sentiment with this sweet snowman die cut by Penny Black, called Snowman Joy.   I die cut him out of watercolor card stock and added some subtle touches of color with watercolor pencils.

I was playing around with some watercolor paints recently, and painted this ombre panel on a scrap of watercolor card stock.  It was fun to play around with blending and ended up being a perfect background for my snowman!  I layered it simply on teal cardstock (it was literally a scrap that already had a torn edge).  Uncharted Mariner Distress Oxide ink ended up being a beautiful match to my pieces, so the sentiment was stamped on white with it.  It’s simple & whimsical and I hope it brings a smile your way!

Inky hugs,

Tara
