Tuesday with Tara {take 311} Anniversary tag

Happy Tuesday!  Today is my anniversary (8 years!) and I thought it would be fun to share a throwback post… a project I created prior to joining the SNS team, so it’s never been shared here before!  If you’re a fan of Tim Holtz and you’ve been a maker for a while, you might remember back when he had his ’12 Tags’ series of tutorials.  They were amazing (and are still available to check out on his blog) and this projects is from 2014, a year that he published one detailed tutorial each month.  This is my take on his July tag of 2014.  It’s still hanging on display in our home 🙂

Enjoy this throwback to 2014:

I’m in love! It’s true, I’m in love with my amazing husband, with whom I’ll be celebrating our first anniversary this weekend! I’m also in love with the beachy tag Tim Holtz created with fun techniques for July. So it only seemed right to combine my loves and make some framed art for my hubby for our anniversary 🙂

Here’s a few close ups of how it came together…

Tim’s technique for making sand was fab!  I had to tweak it a bit and actually used texture paste & distress stain as my base instead of Glossy Accents.  I used some torn corrugated cardstock as a base for my beach 🙂

I created a pair of sea horses- love how many colors these little creatures can be!  Such a good looking couple 🙂

I added a crackled heart, embellished with some chitchat stickers & a metal number 1.

forever my love… from Tim’s strip die of words for Valentine’s day- but clearly great for other occassions!

Here’s my completed tag, before framing:

Obviously, since I made this project 8 years ago, many of the dies are unavailable right now.  I hope you are inspired by the colors & techniques though and it’s got you thinking about new things to do with products you may already have!

Inky hugs,

Tara

Tuesday with Tara {take 43}

Happy Tuesday!  Today’s card is inspired by Tim Holtz again… this time a more recent project, the 12 tags of 2016 – March.  I changed things up a little bit as I’d already played around with a background and decided it would look good behind a grungy butterfly frame 🙂

grungy butterfly (2)My background was actually done when I was making this tag with Distress Crayons, and is a similar technique, but I took a tag with gesso and dry embossed it before adding color.  I like the texture you get with the color pooling in the debossed parts of the image.  I used mini butterfly dies (movers & shapers) which shows off more of my grungy cardboard frame, that had multiple inks splattered and rubbed on it.

My card background started as an oops… I was using black gesso and dribbled some on the kraft 5×7.  I then decided to just dry brush (aka clean off my brush!) on the card and it turned into a fun looking background perfect for this image!

Our winner from last week’s giveaway is Inky Fingers!  Send us a message on facebook or use this form with your mailing address and we’ll send your prize

Since this card is kinda grungy, how about a chance to win your choice of two finnabair clear stamps from the shop?  Just comment on this post or our facebook page post linking here.  Pick a number between 1-100 for your chance to win!

Have a creative week!

Inky hugs,

Tara
