Mandala Madness

Welcome back to the Scrap ‘n Stamp blog! Today’s Random Acts of Cardness prompt is MANDALA. I don’t use mandalas a lot on my cards, but I wanted to play with a layering die set from Birch Press Designs, Kaleidoscope. If you’re unfamiliar with this company, they make beautiful, intricate layering dies that can be used in a variety of different ways. For my design, I was inspired by the colours of our current Random Acts of Cardness board. Here’s my card:

I picked three colours of cardstock from Memory Box’s Sunny Orange 6×6 cardstock pack. This is heavyweight paper, but the dies cut it beautifully. I adhered my layers together and then cut the resulting mandala in half with my trimmer. For my white panel, I wanted a subtle ombré effect from the top, so brayered a little squeezed lemonade distress ink on a gel plate and pressed my cardstock onto it. (I could have also blended the ink, but it’s fun to play around sometimes.) I used the middle colour of cardstock for the card base and to die cut my sentiment.

Do you have mandala stamps or dies in your collection? Perhaps you draw your own! We would love to see your mandala cards on the Scrap ‘n Stamp challenge page – and entering puts you in the running for a $50 gift card! Happy Friday and thanks for stopping by.

A Colourful Birthday!

It’s a colourful day on the blog! I’m sharing a birthday card for today’s Random Acts of Cardness challenge: COLOURFUL! (I went birthday today, but this prompt certainly works for Christmas in July cards, too!) Here’s my card:

I’m using stamps and dies from Concord & 9th called Top It Off. (stamps here and dies here) I love how I was able to fill the entire card front with the cake and toppers. The cake and candles are stamped in various colours of Memento ink – with the help of Versamark on the cake layers so I could sparkle them up with embossing glitter! For the candles, I glitzed up their flames with Liquid Stardust – if you haven’t tried this, it easily adds the most beautiful shimmer wherever you want it! Of course, I was trying to photograph this on a thunderstorm-y day, so I couldn’t come close to capturing the glitter and shine. The “eat cake” topper is cut from purple cardstock. The card base actually comes from a blue cardstock pack, but it’s a purply blue. 😉

I have to show you the inside of my card, as I used one of my favourite parts of the stamp set:

Birthday cake, yum… 😀

Tuesday with Tara {take 305} Big Hugs

Happy Tuesday!  Today I’ve got a card inspired by my sister, Joy.  She is a giver of AMAZING hugs and she recently welcomed a snuggly tabby cat into the family… so I decided to pair a snarky cat stamp with the Twiggy Hugs die by Memory Box!

I did some simple, scribbly watercolor on the cat and cut him out of white card stock.  I cut the ‘hugs’ from a variety of papers, but decided on simple Kraft on an inked background (which I did during the same crafty session as the one in my first- and only so far, ha!- video).

The rest of the card is pretty simple assembly- a scrap of book print, some sequins, bling, twine & a sticker.   I did make sure to wrap his little tail around the letters like a bit of kitty cat affection.  I love how the height of the cat is so similar to the height of these letters!  They will be fun to work with and I’ve got a few ideas brewing for things I can pair with them…

I’m sure looking forward to the day when I can get big hugs from friends & family that are so far away… but for now, paper hugs like this will have to do!

Inky hugs,

Tara
