Tuesday with Tara {take 248} Snarky Cat

Hi & happy Tuesday!  Today’s card features Snarky Cat stamps by Tim Holtz and a watercolor background created with Distress Inks.   I started this background with plans to coordinate with some crinkle ribbon I’d recently inked up… then I decided on a super simple layout that really didn’t need ribbon!

My background is a classic ‘smooshing’ technique, done by smooching the Distress Ink pad directly onto my craft mat (I used two shades of blue and a purple) and spritzing with water.  I then set my pre-cut piece of watercolor card stock into the puddles, lifted and dried with a heat tool.  I repeated this step multiple times until I had as much color as I wanted.  I splattered some more water directly onto my card to get some more textural variety.

Lastly, I added a few stamped details with Distress Oxide Inks as well, using small floral & splatter images from the Just Because set by Concord & 9th.

Once dry, I layered my colorful background onto a kraft panel, which I distressed by scraping a scissor blade across.  These panels were mounted on a simple black card.  I finished everything off with my Snarky Cat & sentiment, simply stamped in black and cut out to adhere to the card front.  I added a couple foam adhesive squares for dimension under the sentiment and also under the cats belly and tail 🙂  It’s a subtle touch, but keeps it from being a totally flat card.

It’s a simple card that came together pretty quick… it’s always fun to play around with Distress Ink backgrounds, especially when you let go of exceptions of what the end result will be!

Inky hugs,

Tara
