Birthday Wishing Mice and a Cute Rabbit

Hi Everyone! Susan here with day 29 of the Random Acts of Cardness Challenges. My challenge this time is Mice. I love the Birthday Wishing stamp set from Colorado Craft Company – those critters are so cute and knew I would be using it for this challenge. I paired it with the Playful Happy Birthday Die from Poppystamps and the It’s a Mice Time To Celebrate Stamp Set from MFT.

I started out with the idea of using the Happy Birthday die on a slim line card. First I blended some distress oxide inks onto a piece of white cardstock in a rainbow order. After I die cut it I thought I could use the leftover piece on a card and decided to make two A2 size cards instead of one slimline card.

My first card doesn’t have a mouse on it – oops. I forgot to leave room to stamp a little mouse looking up at the rabbit.

I decided to use the happy on this card paired with the white embossed birthday on black card stock. The birthday is part of a sentiment from the It’s a Mice Time To Celebrate Stamp Set. I stamped the rabbit onto the piece of cardstock that I did the ink blending on (first cutting off the portion that I die cut the happy birthday from) then fit it to the right side of my card base. I added a thin strip of black card stock then added the sentiments to call this card done.

My second card definitely has mice. I started by adhering the birthday word die to the panel, stamping the little happy above it then stamped the mice.

The balloons are the same one you see in the first card. I just stamped the balloon portion 3x then drew on the strings with a fine tip black marker. I used a blender pen and the same distress oxide inks I used on the first card to color in the balloons & the present. I used Prismacolor pencils for the mice.

Both these cards put a smile on my face. They are bright, fun and still very clean and simple.

Time for you to join the fun!

If you want to play along with the Random Acts of Cardness challenges please share your projects (it doesn’t have to be a card) on the Scrap’n Stamp Facebook Challenge Page using the hashtag #SNSCHALLENGE. Tuesday with Tara {take 296} Paintbrush Tickles

Happy Tuesday!

When I got the Wishing You Happiness stamp set, I couldn’t wait to play with these little cuties with their paintbrushes… I wanted to pair them with some fun painty backgrounds and the recent live by Tim Holtz featuring Distress Paint was great inspiration!  I still haven’t watched the entire thing yet (I think it’s 3 hours long), but there’s some fantastic techniques to check out if you haven’t yet!  If you’re short on time like I almost always am, you can catch the technique I took my inspiration from starting at the 52 minute mark.  He calls it paint lifting and it’s a favorite technique of mine using stencils with paint- I’ve done it a bunch with Dina’s paints, but this was my first try with Distress!

I created a simple background on a piece of white card that was approximately 5.5 x 4.25″ using Distress Paint in Twisted Citron, Broken China ,Crackling Campfire & Chipped Sapphire.  I did some paint lifting through a couple different stencils (Dotty Lottie & Broken Fence) and I finished it off with a few splatters of Picket Fence Distress Spray Stain.

Taking inspiration from a different curved sentiment in this set, I decided to use a curved edge die to trim my background design and stamped the little mouse & sentiment along the curve.  For simplicity (and time!) I didn’t even color my image, just stamped with Twilight Versafine Ink for a nice bold image.

I chose to make the second card vertical with the smaller piece of my painted background along the fold.  Again, I left the card design very simple.  I love how you can really see my brush strokes in the chipped sapphire paint!

The splatters on this one were a bit bigger than I intended, but it makes the small piece a lot more interesting!  I love how these cards combine mixed media techniques with a clean & simple design.

Here’s a look at the pair of cards together… can you tell I was inspired by my sweet & silly grandson when I was making them?

Inky hugs,

Tara

Tuesday with Tara {take 294} just a note

Happy Tuesday!  Today I’m sharing a quick, happy little card featuring an adorable image by artist Anita Jeram.  I have always loved children’s books, and was so excited to see that Colorado Craft Company has partnered with Anita, who illustrated Guess How Much I Love You.  Her characters are so adorable and I know that the set I’ve used today “Wishing You Happiness” will be the first of many that I purchase…

I kept my card simple, but colorful to keep the focus on this cute little mouse with his note pad… colored simply with a mix of watercolor pencils and Distress Ink.  I had a scrap of background paper that I tweaked a bit, adding a bit of blended Distress Ink then stamping the MFT Best Friend Background over it.  I love a good text stamp, and this one is great because it has lots of phrases about friendship.

At the last minute as I was about to glue down my layers, I decided some soft yellow polkadots would be a fun addition to this card.  I grabbed the Dotty Lottie stencil I had used on my last card and added some Squeezed Lemonade Distress Oxide Ink very lightly across the panel of watercolor card stock.  It is not neon as it appears in my first photo, it’s actually quite subtle if it’s not in direct sunlight!

I hope you have a great day, and check out the new list of words for our #snschallenge on Facebook!  Today’s word is NOTE!

Inky hugs,

Tara
