Homeward with Fall Colours

Hello there, and happy Friday! It’s Deb here, posting for the Scrap ‘N Stamp Design Team today. Since our recent blog hop featured the Distress Oxide inks, I thought I’d carry on with that theme. It’s also definitely fall, so I decided to use the Penny Black stamp Homeward with fall colours.

HOMEWARD

I just love the scenic stamps by Penny Black! They’re so expressive, as well as versatile. Take today’s stamp – Homeward. Just change up the colours you use, and it could be for all 4 seasons!

Penny Black Homeward stamp

I really enjoyed creating this card! I combined regular dye inks with the distress oxides. Read on, for the details!

CARD DETAILS

First, start by setting up your panel of white cardstock in your stamping platform. This is a ‘must’, for easily stamping in multiple colours. Next, ink up one colour at a time. The Gina K. Autumn Ink Cube Collection works perfectly for this image! Start with the Fresh Asparagus and ink up the grassy foreground and grass to the left of the fence. Next, pull in a dark brown for the tree trunk, fence and horizon line. For the tree leaves, add a combination of Tomato Soup, Sweet Corn and a bit of Faded Brick, and then stamp. You can use a brown marker to go back and add in the smaller branches.

Once you’re finished with the coloured stamping, clean off the stamp, and then ink it up in Versamark ink. Stamp over your entire image. Cover it with clear embossing powder, and heat set. Now you’re good to add in your distress oxides, without taking away from all the gorgeous colours!

DISTRESS OXIDE BACKGROUND COLOURS

To create the background, first mask off the horizon line. I simply held a piece of copy paper in place, covering the bottom of the panel. Blend on some Fired Brick just above the horizon line, to give it a sunrise glow. Next, add Fossilized Amber above the Fired Brick, and around the tree. This gives it a beautiful sunrise glow. Colour in the wheel ruts with some Vintage Photo. I love using the small Life Changing Blender Brushes for these small areas. Finally, blend on Broken China at the top.

The sentiment is from the MFT Well, Hello stamp set, stamped in Nocturne ink.  Now you’re ready to layer your panel onto a gold coloured cardstock panel with foam tape, and then onto a dark orange card base.

Doesn’t the Fossilized Amber just seem to glow?! I’d love to be walking along the path next to this tree. All that’s missing is leaves to crunch, underfoot.

Tuesday with Tara {take 221} Give Thanks

Happy Tuesday! It’s Thanksgiving in Canada next week and I’m looking forward to celebrating & enjoying a delicious meal with my family here in my southern home.

I had the opportunity to try out the Gina K Wreath Builder tool recently, and this image was what came of it. We stamped with a mix of three images from Sketchy Flowers by MFT, in three different colors of ink. I used the coordinating layering stamps to add more autumn colors to the mix.

The stamps & placement caused this to be a very symmetrical, square image. I had to get creative when deciding how to crop it to mount on a card, since it was also on a large 6” square paper. As I started trimming the image down, I decided to embrace the cropped corners and create a shaped card. I added a dark brown layer and trimmed the corners to match the shape, then mounted it to a square 5.5” Kraft card before cropping the corners on it to match. It’s been a while since I made a shaped card and I’d forgotten how fun they can be!

I had a different die cut picked out to use on this card, but changed my mind mid-process and decided to cut my own using the lowercase cutout alphanumeric dies by Tim Holtz. I cut them to fit a dark brown tag, which I layered over a second tag cut from burlap. It gives such great texture to this card!

Little details that finish things off include a bow on the tags from hand dyed crinkle ribbon in shades of brown and glossy Nuvo drops around the floral design in buttermilk.

Inky hugs,

Tara

Poinsettia Christmas

I have yet to start my Christmas cards and thought this would be the perfect opportunity to do so, and of course I love to watercolour, so that is what I decided for this card.

Using Fabriano Hot Press watercolour paper I die cut the paper with MFT Stitched Rectangle die.

For this card I decided I would keep the colours in non-traditional Christmas colours so I used Pink, Green and Yellow Kuretake Clean Color Brushes.

To stamp I used distress ink in Twisted Citron. This is not a waterproof ink, so I was careful as I did my watercolouring, which was minimal.

Using the light green brush I layered 3 layers of ink on the left side for the deep green. I also used it to shadow the flowers on the right.

Adding my panel to a pale pink card base I then stamped the sentiment using VersaFine Clair ink in Glamorous, and finished with a splattering of sequins.

Thank you for visiting today. I have included Affiliate links to the products I used from the store today, at no cost to you.
