Orange You Glad It’s Thursday?

I couldn’t resist the corny joke! My word prompt for the Scrap ‘N Stamp daily challenge is ‘orange’, so I just couldn’t resist the ‘orange you glad it’s Thursday’ joke.  Actually, I’m running behind – I was supposed to have shared this card on Tuesday the 11th. So if you’re confused, it’s okay; it’s not you, it’s me!

ORANGE MOON

I recently received the new Tim Holtz Layering Moon Mask set, and just had to use it!  We’ve had so many spectacular moons this year – blood moon, harvest moon, blue moon, super moon, that I thought I’d go with my version of the blood moon – but in orange!

Orange You Glad it's Thursday?

Plus, since Hallowe’en is coming up in a few weeks, I thought I’d make it a bit spooky, too.

CARD DETAILS

If you haven’t seen this new Moon Mask set yet, you really have to check it out! You get 3 masks and 3 stencils, in 3 different sizes.  I chose the middle size moon. First, place the mask onto your white cardstock, and then blend Fossilized Amber around the edges. Leaving the mask in place, next blend Dusty Concord, then Chipped Sapphire, and finally Black Soot distress oxide inks. Now, remove the mask, and blend Spiced Marmalade distress ink to fill in the moon. Next place the moon stencil, and use the Black Soot distress oxide to stencil in the craters of the moon.

After completing the moon, remove the stencil, and then stamp the Lavinia Stamps Seasonal Tree in Nocturne ink.  Then blend a bit more Black Soot around the bottom, so that the tree doesn’t look like it’s floating. I didn’t have a suitable spooky sentiment, so I didn’t add one. But if you do, to the left of the tree at the bottom is the perfect spot!

Now, layer your image panel onto a piece of dark yellow cardstock with foam tape, and then glue it onto an orange card base.

Then, at the end of the month, one lucky participant is randomly chosen, and WINS a $50 GIFT CARD to shop Scrap ‘N Stamp! Today’s word prompt is ‘sentiments’, courtesy of me, Deb, for the Design Team.   I chose to use the Poppystamps Sea Life Sentiments stamp sets, along with some Lavinia sea themed stamps.

SEA CREATURES

I admit that I just love the design style of Lavinia stamps! And since I’ve been in a sea/ocean theme lately, it was easy to choose the Sea Creatures, and Sea Tangle stamps to use on today’s card.

Sea Life Sentiments

This card was fun to do – I just let my creativity have fun!

CARD DETAILS

First, start with a blue slimline card base. Next, use the Picket Fence Studios Slimline Die Cutting System to cut a piece of white cardstock for the back layer, and a light blue/green piece for the top layer. Next, use the stitched circle from this same die set, and die cut 3 circles from the front.

Use the Lavinia Sea Tangle stamp and a turquoise ink, and stamp randomly on the die cut front panel. Set this aside, while you work on the back panel.  On the white panel, use a blending tool to apply Broken China Distress Oxide ink within the 3 circle areas. Next, place the piece in your stamp platform, and line up the image stamps from the Sea Creatures set. Cover the stamps with Versamark ink, and stamp.  Have fun with the embossing powders – I combined 3 WOW embossing powders in Gold, Florida Sunset and Sea of Tranquility on the 3 images.  Shake off any excess powder, and set with your heat tool.  Stamp the sentiments from the Poppystamps Sea Life Sentiments set in Versamark, and use the left over combined colours of embossing powder for them.

Now, layer the stamped die cut/stamped panel over the image panel with foam tape or squares, and then attach the sentiments. Finally, add some sparkle with Picket Fence Studios Spiked Ocean Water Sequin Mix, and some clear acrylic bubbles.

Sea Life Sentiments

I love the sparkle  & shine from the mixed embossing powders, along with the sequins!

Who Needs a Hug?

If there’s one thing that this pandemic has taught me, it’s the importance of physical connection with out loved ones! Who needs a hug? I do, and I bet you do, too. Luckily, I have my husband and 2 sons at home for daily hugs, but I’m really looking forward to the day when I can hug my friends & extended family.  Hey there, it’s Deb here for the Design Team! Today’s daily challenge word is ‘die cuts’ (okay, it’s 2 words) so I chose the new Hero Arts Big Hugs Stamp & Cut set to feature.

BIG HUGS

I love it when you can buy a bundle that includes a die with a stamp set! With this set, I wanted it to be the feature of my card. So instead of adding other images, I used some gorgeous Lavinia Stamps Dreamscapes paper for the background.

Who Needs a Hug?

CARD DETAILS

To emphasize the ‘big’, I went with a slimline design! Create your card base with cardstock that measures 7″ wide by 8 1/2″ long. Score in the middle at 3 1/2″, and fold.  I incorporated my card base colours with those in the Lavinia Dreamscapes Colour Burst sheet that I chose. With this particular sheet, I love the addition of the white swirls in the top corner, and left hand side.

Use your Big Shot with the Big Hugs die from the set, and die cut from light purple cardstock. Die cut it again, this time from fun foam, for layering underneath. This gives you great dimension, and you can off-set it slightly, so you can see the white. Doing this ties in the white swirls on the paper, and the white in your sentiment strip.

Stamp the sentiment in Gina K. Passion Flower ink onto white cardstock. Snip banner tails on the left side, and attach it above the die cut letters, using foam tape.  Add a few embellishments for sparkle; I grabbed some from my stash – not sure where they’re from, or how long I’ve had them! (I’m not a hoarder, I’m a ‘craft enthusiast’!)

Who Needs a Hug?

This may be a ‘simple’ card to make, but using the gorgeous paper for background, and then adding the dimension behind the die cuts and sentiment, really adds ‘oomph’ to the design.

SO, WHO NEEDS A HUG?

I hope that you’ve got someone close who you can share a hug with! This card is perfect and quick enough to make that you can send it to your friends & family that you’re not able to hug, right now.  Also, I hope that you’ll join in the Scrap ‘N Stamp Random Acts of Cardness/Daily Challenge on Facebook HERE.  You can join as many or as few days as you want. Just choose the word prompt, create a project using that word, and share it in the group. Be sure to use the hashtag #snschallenge, so it doesn’t get missed! Share it on all of your social media accounts, and get your friends to join, too! At the end of each month, one lucky participant is randomly chosen, and WINS A $50 GIFT CARD to shop the Scrap ‘N Stamp store!
