Cozy Companions for Fall

Hello there! It’s Deb here, from the Design Team. Today’s prompt for the Scrap ‘N Stamp Daily Challenge is ‘cozy’. That of course led me directly to my My Favorite Things Cozy Companions set for this fall themed card. These critters are doing what I love – curling up by the fireplace, with a book & favourite beverage.

COZY COMPANIONS

I know that this set is from last year, but it’s still one of my favourites! And with the new slimline card craze, you can create this cozy scene with room to spare.

Cozy Companions for Fall

CARD DETAILS

I knew that I wanted to watercolour the images, so I start with a piece of watercolour paper. Next, stamp the images in Nocturne ink. Make sure the ink is dry, before you start colouring. Use the Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers and a water brush for colouring. Apply the marker directly to the watercolour paper, and then use the water brush to ‘pull’ the colour into the image.  It’s a nice, meditative process to colour these images – just enjoy and choose your favourite colours.

Once the colouring is done, use the coordinating Cozy Companion dies with a Big Shot to die cut each image.  Now, prepare your card base. Take an 8 1/2″ x 7″ piece of cardstock, score & fold it in  half at 3 1/2″. Next, glue on a lighter green piece of cardstock. Now, to create the wallpaper look, add a strip from the Lavinia Dream-Scape Colour burst Collection to the top. Now you can add your die cut images, to create the scene. Finally, stamp the sentiment in Nocturne on a strip of white paper, and attach it over the fireplace, using foam tape or squares.

Cozy Companions for Fall

Do you have a friend or favourite person that you like to sit with, in front of a fire? Sometimes companionable silence is the best.

Daily Challenge Prompt is Moon

Welcome to a new week! It’s Deb here, from the Design Team. If you’re playing along with the Scrap ‘N Stamp Daily Challenge, today’s prompt is Moon. If you’re not playing along – why not? It’s easy to do, free – and you could win a prize! You do need a Facebook account, then join the Challenge page HERE. Play along with as many days as you like! Simply create a project with one of the prompt themes, then post it on the Challenge page. Be sure to use the hashtag #snschallenge there, and on other social media platforms. At the end of the month, one lucky participant is randomly drawn to WIN A PRIZE!

KEEPING THE FAITH

I admit – I chose this prompt of Moon so that I could play some more with my Lavinia stamps! I had so much fun that I created 2 cards to share with you today. This first one features the Moon stamp, as well as Fox 1 (Kernal).

Daily Challenge Prompt is Moon

This also gave me the change to do some ink blending, using the new Tim Holtz Crackling Campfire Distress Oxide.

CARD DETAILS

Start with a  piece of smooth white cardstock. Mask off a circle about 1 3/4″ round, just below the top. About 1/3rd of the way up from the bottom, start blending on Fossilized Amber ink, and then Spiced Marmalade next. At the top, blend on the Crackling Campfire, and then go back & blend the transition areas between the colours. At the very bottom of the panel, blend on Black Soot Distress Oxide.

Now remove the mask,  and stamp the Moon image in dark gray ink. Next, stamp the Fox 1 (Kernal) image in Nocturne ink. See that black line in the neck area? That happened because I had also masked off the top portion of the Fox’s head before blending the background colours. Therefore, I ended up with a different ink saturation after removing the mask! Live and learn, my friend! Even inking & stamping a few times couldn’t fix that line!

Finally, I added to the background by randomly stamping the background sentiment stamp Keep the Faith in Versafine Imperial Purple ink, around the images. More Black Soot was added around all 4 edges of the panel.

Daily Challenge Prompt is Moom

FULL MOON

This second card is much quicker to make! I loved  how it looked, so I haven’t added any sentiment yet. That can be done once I decide who to send it to, and for what occasion.

CARD DETAILS

With a piece of copy or scrap paper, punch or  cut out a 2″ circle. Place this mask over the top of a piece of white cardstock. Now, use a blending tool to apply Crackling  Campfire distress oxide ink into the circle. Next, remove the mask, and stamp the Lavinia Weeping Willow image in Nocturne ink. Use a blending tool to apply Black Soot distress oxide along the bottom.

Layer the card front onto a piece of black cardstock, and then onto an orange card base. You could turn this into a ‘Hallowe’en’ card by adding some flying bats, or other ‘creepy’ features. For some reason, this reminds me of a Japanese theme, so you could add a crane bird image, or pagoda in the background.

Tuesday with Tara {take 264} Fall Fairy Wings

Happy Tuesday!   I hope you had a fabulous long weekend celebrating the unofficial end of summer and beginning of fall- and hopefully you got to take in our Live, Love, Lavinia Blog Hop!  (If you haven’t hopped yet, there’s still plenty of time to hop & comment for a chance to win!).

I had a lot of fun with the three dancing fairies in my blog hop project, but I also pictured them dancing on some falling leaves so I decided to pair them with these realistic leaves from the Tim Holtz Natures Wonders stamp set.  I stamped them on ivory card stock in a variety of Distress Oxide colors, positioning the fairies around them.  I’d never tried combining them before, but I added some shading to the leaves with Dina Wakley Media Scribble Sticks.  With the addition of a water brush it ended up to be a really fun combo that I will use again!

Once I finished coloring the leaves I die cut the panel with a deckle edge die and inked the edges with Speckled Egg Distress Ink. I then splattered some Distress Spray Stain the same color over the panel, followed by a bit of metallic spray for extra shimmer.

I finished off the image with a bit of Nuvo shimmer pen on the fairy wings and a bit on the leaves. I stamped a sentiment (from a fab new set by MFT) on a scrap of inked paper leftover from my poinsettia card- I love how it contrasts with the leaves and pulls out the blues in the background.  Lastly I layered it all onto an ivory card base.

The finished card is a fun design that is simple enough and lays flat for easy mailing!  There are hints of shimmer all over.

I’m looking forward to some more autumn creations and can’t wait to see yours!  Be sure to join us in the SNS Challenge group on Facebook and share your creations!  Today’s challenge word is Wings!

Inky hugs,

Tara
