Tuesday with tara {take 352} Refresh!

Happy Tuesday!  Today I’m sharing a card that is a sweet reminder to *refresh*!  This sweet kitten by Anita Jeram is getting ready to refresh some spring flowers, and maybe taking some time to enjoy the flowers will give you the refresh that you need!

I wanted to work with my new mini slimline stackable dies by Lawn Fawn for this card, so I chose to make a sweet 3×6″ card this time.  I’ve been playing around with a variety of sizes as mini slims lately, but this one (or something a little bit bigger) may be my new default now that I have these dies!

This little card size is not anything new for me, even though it is kinda a ‘trendy new thing’ in card making right now!  I have been making cards this size for around 15 years!  Looking back at my personal blog (which I used when I had a store in Williams Lake, BC) I found some to share from classes I taught in 2009.  I saw some as far back as 2007 when I looked a while ago, but the photos were kinda awful 🙂

I pulled out my Copics to color this cutie, experimenting with this light Kraft Cardstock as my base.  It was a bit hard to see how the blending would come out as I worked (the ink is much darker when wet than it is on white Cardstock!), but I was pleased with the result and impressed with how well even the light colors show up!

I dug through my dies to find some flowers that would coordinate nicely with the cute one on the watering can… and I found these ones from two different funky floral sets by Tim Holtz.  I cut them from a panel of Cardstock I did some ink blending on with a few shades of Distress Oxide Ink, then added a touch of glitter to the finished flowers.

Finally, I decided on some ombre layers to match the mix of colors and of course a bit of bling to add sparkle!

Hope you like this little cutie and that you take some time to refresh… whatever that means for you!

Inky hugs,

Tara

Tuesday with Tara {take 348} Glaze!

I had the best intentions of sharing with you fun new projects featuring Distress Glaze today… but a stomach bug is lingering in my house right now, and while I don’t have it, I don’t have any creative mojo either!  (I did get several bits and pieces made though, and they will show up in future makes!) So, I’m sharing a fun throwback to my very first make with Distress Glaze, which also happens to be the first of the ‘new’ Distress collection releases back in 2020.  Enjoy!

I’m so excited to have the new Speckled Egg Distress collection to play with, it’s such a lovely color that is absolutely perfect with so many other colors and themes.  My goal on today’s card was honestly just to play with it and some other new to me products!  Here’s a photo of what I used (though I’ve got the wrong Nuvo product in this pic- I used the Nuvo Expanding Mousse today)!

Here’s a look at my card!  The background is a text stamp in black and Distress Oxide Spray splattered across the background.  The addition of Broken China with Speckled Egg brightens up the blue tones to really help the large flourish (from a large 12×12 stencil in my stash) pop.  The transparent wings I selected both had some hints of color in them already, but I painted some speckled egg Distress Paint on the back side where there were clear areas.  I love how this simple addition helped to tie everything together!

This was my first time playing with Distress Embossing Glaze, so I’ve used it in two ways on my card.  The sentiment is embossed over Broken China Distress Ink.  I stamped & embossed twice to get a bit more intensity.  I also sprinkled the glaze over the wet Nuvo Expanding Mousse, which I knew I would be heating to get that funky expansion happening. Here’s a peek at the pearly finish of the mousse before it was bubbled up from the heat (I tried it on another surface and it does keep that shimmer after it puffs up).

And here’s a closer look at the details… as you can see, the glaze is translucent, so you can see the details underneath it on the sentiment.  It’s fun stuff, and I look forward to playing with it some more!

I had a lot of fun playing with my new BLUE Speckled Egg Distress products today, as well as combining them with a bit of Broken China Distress to brighten things up a bit!  Good stuff 🙂  I hope you like it!

Inky hugs,

Tara

Tuesday with Tara {take 337} Meow & You

Happy Tuesday!

Today I’m sharing a simple card I put together using one of the stenciled backgrounds I created a few weeks ago.  I used a combination of two stencils, a Window Panes design by MFT and a ‘nature’ design from Tim Holtz which I layered over it.  I worked with a few colors of Distress Oxide Ink and a blending tool to get this subtle design.  Since this background didn’t work with my snowman card, I thought it would be sweet with the cats from this mini meows stamp set by MFT!

Since I had a background of full color, I stamped my images in simple black ink, just added a tiny bit of dimension with some Nuvo drops on the hearts.  I used the die cut stitched sentiment strips to add one of the cute sayings that is included with this stamp set.

It’s a super simple card, but it has some fun details that are sure to make the recipient smile 🙂 I added one more cat with another sentiment inside to carry on the theme… it should make a sweet, non traditional valentine for someone who loves cats!  Hope you like it too!

Inky hugs,

Tara
