Tuesday with Tara {take 418} Immense Joy

Happy Tuesday!  Today I’m sharing a card I created last year, but never shared here on the SNS blog!  It features the fabulous Immense Joy die by Penny Black- I hope you like it!

I fell in love with this bold JOY die & immediately saw it as a frame for what I hoped would be quick & easy cards… paired with the sweet Holly Berry Birds stamp, it seemed a bit of an odd combination since both items essentially fill a card front.  I didn’t want to eliminate the pretty holly branches, so I chose to try my hand at the spotlight technique.  Since Kraft is my favorite neutral, I started there and added some bling with a glittery die cut.
It took some trial and error to get everything lined up… next time I’ll use my stamping platform to keep things straight!  But I did some quick coloring with watercolor pencils on this one.  The stamp was inked in black and stamped both on the Kraft background panel and again on white, then die cut from the JOY die to get the best fit inside the open “O”.

I look forward to seeing what other stamped images will fit inside that big open space.  It’s so much fun to mix and match older & newer products, especially with Christmas when you have favorites that are only used once a year!

Inky hugs,

Tara

Tuesday with Tara {take 415} Sweet Treat Bags!

It’s not too late to put together some sweet little bags of treats before Halloween next week!  I’ve used dies, a stencil and ink all by Tim Holtz for these treats!  One thing I love about the Pumpkin Duo die set, is that you can use just the base layer as a silhouette when you want something simple, like I’ve done here!  It made a really fun window for my treat bags!
I was really hoping the cats from the Mischievous die set would be a good fit with the pumpkins, and they did not disappoint!  Cutting them out of a deep purple/black glitter paper is simply fabulous for Halloween (but they’ll be fun in a variety of colors throughout the year too)!

For the background I trimmed and scored the panel to the size I wanted (slightly larger than the plastic treat bag I filled with candy & tucked inside).  I used a blending tool to ink around the edges to start, then added more color over the entire panel through the linked circle stencil.  The fun finishing touch on these is the Sassy Spooktacular Sentiments by MFT- there’s so many fun ones in this set, I really wish I had more Halloween images to work with (who knew I’d grow to enjoy Halloween makes?)!

I used small treat bags to fill with candy, then put them in place with adhesive tape before folding over the Cardstock and punching holes for my ribbon.  I forgot to take a photo of the back of these, but it’s really nothing fancy- just a rectangle of cardstock folded over a bag.  You could definitely make it a bit fancier by creating a triangular pouch with scores at the bottom so it stood up, but these are super simple and perfect to go in my little treat bucket!

These little goodie bags went together pretty quick & easy and are such a fun way to add a handmade touch to your Halloween Treats!  We don’t get many trick-or-treaters at our house, so it was no problem making enough to go around 🙂

Hope you have a sweet day!

Inky hugs,

Tara

Tuesday with Tara {take 414} Sketchy Leaves

I absolutely love autumn!  One of my favorite things about moving south to North Carolina is that I can enjoy, decorate & make cards for autumn all the way through November. It’s especially nice because I love buying new autumn stamps… like these Sketchy Leaves by Tim Holtz!  I almost resisted them, but the big maple leaf caught my eye as I don’t think I’ve got one in all my other sets and it’ll come in handy for Canada Day, too 😉

I decided to start with some simple Distress Ink watercolor- blending a couple colors on the stamp and misting it with water before stamping on watercolor card stock.  I trimmed my card stock to size for a slimline card so I could fit more leaves on it, then had some fun with Mica Sprays over my colorful leaves!  I’ve used a trio of Distress Inks, Wild Honey, Crackling Campfire & Peacock Feathers.  I misted over them with two of the new seasonal Mica Sprays, Sugary Gumdrop & Wonderland, then added a some Antiqued Bronze to tie it all together with the copper embossed sentiment (by MFT).

The mix of the mica sprays is so pretty & shimmery, it was hard to capture in a photo!  It’s one of those combos I decided to try on a whim for this card, and I’m so glad I did!  I’ll be playing with these stamps some more over the next bit… keep an eye on my blog or instagram account for a peek!

Inky hugs,

Tara
