Hot and Cold Embossing

Saturday, August 28th, 2021

Hi Everyone!

It’s Susan here with day 28 of the Random Acts of Cardness challenges and todays challenge is to use embossing on your projects. I chose to use an embossing folder (cold) and to heat emboss the sentiment (hot).

I started with the Taylored Expressions Peaceful Poinsettia Embossing Folder and a piece of watercolor card stock cut to 4 x 5 1/4″. I grabbed No.024 Wine Red and N0.052 Bright Yellow and scribbled them onto an acetate sheet.

Next I spritzed it with some water.

Then pressed the watercolor card stock into the puddles of ink until it was all covered.

After I covered the whole panel I dried it with my heat gun. I used the peaceful Poinsettia Embossing Folder to emboss the inked panel then set about coloring it in. I used the same two colors I used for the panel and added No.021 Light Carmine and No.043 Olive Green to color in a few of the flowers and leaves. I did this by adding ink directly to the bottom part of the petal that I wanted to color then using a water brush I blended the color to the full petal. Some petals have two colors and some have the same color twice. Letting it dry after the first layer then adding more of the same shade in a smaller area is a great way to stretch your colors into more shades of the same color. I hope that makes sense.

Once I finished coloring the panel I layered it onto a piece of the dark olive card stock from the Hero Arts Sampler Pack than adhered that to a white card base. I used a clear sparkle pen to add some sparkle to the petals of the flowers.

I used a sentiment from Taylored Expressions Beautiful Baubles Add-ons Stamp Set. I embossed it with white embossing powder onto black card stock then fussy cut it out. I added some craft foam to the back and adhered that to the card.

HAVING FUN WITH ZIGS

Thursday, August 12th, 2021
Hi Everyone!
It’s Susan and I’m playing with Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers today for the Random Acts of Cardness Challenge. I have two cards to share with you. the first one literally took just minutes to make.
I started with 3 different blue markers. I scribbled them onto a piece of Ranger watercolor card stock (first pic below) then sprayed it with some water (second pic). Next I used my heat tool to dry it. I continued with three purple markers, sprayed on some water then dried it with my heat tool. Next I scribbled a dark blue marker at the top, spritz it with more water then used a brush to blend it over the whole panel to darken it up.

To finish the card I stamped the Picket Fence  Capture Life in Color stamp with Versafine Nocturne ink. Because watercolor paper isn’t smooth I used my MISTI and stamped the image 3 or 4 times to get good coverage. I die cut the panel with the second large die in Lawn Fawns Stitched Rectangle Die set and added it to the card base with craft foam. I used a white Posca Paint Pen to add a few highlights.
The next card took a little longer to make. I stamped the three gnomes from Spellbinders Holiday Gnomes Stamp Set with Versafine Nocturne ink. I used my MISTI, stamped it a few times to get a solid image. I left the stamp in the MISTI so I could stamp it again after I finished coloring.  This next picture shows how I did the coloring. I chose two colors for the hat, added the darker one into the bottom corners and part way up and then a lighter color. You can see the two colors on the right side of the hat. Next I took a wet paint brush and pulled the two colors together and blended them further up the hat. I hope that makes sense.
I continued coloring all three gnomes using the technique I just described.
Once I colored in all the gnomes I used a dark and light gray to add some shading to the bottom. I used a light blue to add a little color to the background ( I scribbled the marker onto a block, spritzed it with some water and blended it onto the panel with a paint brush. I added a light gray around lower portion of the gnomes the same way I added the light blue.

Christmas in July with Foliage

Thursday, July 15th, 2021

Hi Everyone! Susan here with a card for todays Random Acts of Cardness challenge. I chose foliage as the prompt and I had an idea in mind when I chose the prompt but when it came time to make the card I went a different way.

The theme for this months hop was Christmas in July (you can check it out here) and I’ve been seeing Christmas cards all over the internet so I went with a Christmas card. I chose one of my all-time favorite Christmas stamps – Berry Kissed from Penny Black. I used my MISTI (stamp positioning tool), some Heavystock White card stock from Tim Holtz and a mixture of Distress and Distress Oxide inks. I added the stamp and the paper into my MISTI and used sponge daubers to add ink, then gave it a tiny spritz of water. I stamped the image then dried it with my heat tool, then repeated the process a few times.

To add detail to the image I pressed the ink pads to my glass media mat, gave them a spritz of water then using a fine tipped paint brush I added some detail to the image and a wash of color for the background. I dried it with my heat tool again then die cut it with the large stitched rectangle from Lawn Fawn. The sentiment is from Concord and 9th’s Festive Friends Stamp Set. I embossed it in white on black card stock and added it to the card with some craft foam.
