Thinking of You with Botan Peony

Hello stamping friend! It’s Deb here today, for the Scrap ‘N Stamp Design Team. We all take turns posting throughout the month sharing posts here on the Scrap ‘N Stamp blog. I love seeing all kinds of techniques, styles and products used by everyone on the team! Today, I’ve made a thinking of you card with Botan Peony by Picket Fence Studios.

THINKING OF YOU

Thinking of You with Botan Peony

I had never actually heard of a ‘Botan Peony’ before, so I looked it up. Of course, I was familiar with the peonies that are grown in the garden – my step mom loves growing them – but I was curious about the ‘Botan’ part of the name. If you’re wondering, a Botan Peony is a tree peony that has a woody stem, and stays above ground all year. There’s some other differences, but I won’t get all of that. I actually took my colour inspiration from this page that I was reading, and this image on the page:

IMAGE DETAILS

Start by setting up your panel of watercolour paper and the stamp in your stamp platform. Ink up the image with Versamark ink, and stamp onto the panel. As watercolour paper is textured, stamp twice, inking up both times, to be sure you get a good image. Cover the stamped image with silver embossing powder, and set with a heat tool.

I chose my Zig Clean Colour Real Brush Markers for colouring my flower. I used Pink, Light Pink, Yellow, Bright Yellow, Olive Green and Pale Green. Start by scribbling the ink colours onto a slick surface; I just use a piece of acetate, or you could use a large clear block or a craft mat. Use a wet water brush to apply water directly to a petal on the watercolour paper, and then pick up ink from with the water brush, and blend it onto the wet surface. While the embossing does act as a ‘dam’ to keep the paint in place if you’ve used too much water, I still worked on opposite petals as I painted – just in case!

While your finished panel is drying, use the Concord & 9th Fabulous Phrases to die cut the sentiment. Die cut one sentiment from silver foil cardstock, and 2 from white cardstock. Layer the 3 sentiments one on top of the other, using liquid glue or the Quickie Glue Stick.

In the photo above, you can see the thickness of the stacked die cuts. I think it gives a nice extra bit of dimension to the card.

PUT YOUR CARD TOGETHER

When you watercolour panel is dry, attach the stacked sentiment die cuts to the front. Next, attach the image panel to a layer of black cardstock, and then to a bright pink card base, with foam tape or squares.  To finish off the card front, I added a few clear droplets from my embellishment stash. I think sequins would look nice, as well.

I do like a card with dimension! However, if you’re concerned about postage, you can leave off the extra layer of black cardstock and the droplets. This would give you a less bulky card to mail.

MAKE SOMEONE’S DAY!

There’s nothing nicer than receiving a card in the daily mail, for no special reason! Telling someone ‘I’m thinking of you’ with this Botan Peony would make anyone’s day, I think! If  you’d like to make a card like this, I’ve included links to the Scrap ‘N Stamp online store.
