Get snarky with MFT & Tim Holtz
Hi there! Chala here today to share MFT and Tim Holtz snarky cards featuring Gel Press Backgrounds. If you have been participating in the Scrap’N Stamp Facebook Challenge then you know that today’s word is “Snarky”. This is by far my favourite theme for cards. I found the perfect sentiments to use at the Scrap’N Stamp store – the Tim Holtz, Small Talk – Snarky sentiments. This tiny book is packed full of sarcasm and off the hip wit! I couldn’t wait to get started!
If you are like me, you have a TON of stamps that you haven’t used in a while and I searched through my stash and found some of my very first purchased stamps, Crazy Cats and Bird Crazy. These adorable old friends were perfect to use with these sentiment strips and my bank account was very happy to not have to purchase any new items. However, with that said, as I was making these cards I did have a Scrap’N Stamp order arrive (tee hee hee- oops!) and the ironic thing was the new MFT Old Friends stamp set was in this order! Well…old people and snark go together like Bengay and arthritis, so of course, I had to use these too!
I knew I wanted to have some fun focal backgrounds to layer the little Tim Holtz critters on and I haven’t used my Gel Press in a dog’s age, so I pulled out some stencils to create simple geometric backgrounds with Distress Oxide Inks. The colour combinations I used were Blueprint Sketch, Cracked Pistachio and Peacock Feathers as well as Seedless Preserve, Spiced Marmalade and Abandoned Coral. I also pulled out some fun geometric stencils to use for some interest and layering. I die cut the backgrounds out with the Wonky Stitched Square dies from MFT and backed them onto some coloured cardstock. Then I stamped out the images with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink and Copic coloured them.
The next step was to match up the Tim Holtz images to the gel press backgrounds and adhere them to the card bases leaving room for the sentiment strips at the bottom. I took a different route with the Old people from the Old Friends set I did some ink blending with Distress Inks in Mowed Lawn and Tumbled grass. This simple ink blending helped to ground the images and let them be the star of the card.
Once all the elements have adhered to the card bases it was time to flip through the sentiment book and find the perfect amount of snark for each card. It was hard to choose as there were so many I loved, so I was happy to have this as a mass make session and ended up creating 20 cards! The sentiment strips are adhesive on the back, but I always like to add a bit of extra liquid adhesive just in case. Here is a quick look at some of the cards that I created.
