Day 22 Challenge Theme is Christmas

Are you playing along with our Scrap ‘N Stamp Random Acts of Cardness Daily Challenge? If so, it’s Day 22 challenge, with a Christmas theme! It’s never too early to start on your Christmas cards, and this prompt is as good an excuse as any to start today.

Tim Holtz Watercolor Trees

I recently received my Scrap ‘N Stamp order, in which I had included the Tim Holtz Watercolor Trees. I order this set specifically for today’s theme! Or did I choose the theme because I ordered the stamp? I don’t remember – but it works!

I chose to use the largest tree in the set, and make it extra special with an Easel Fold Card. These cards are easy to make, but make a big impression on your recipient!

PREPARE THE BASE, & STAMP THE TREE

Start with a dark green cardstock base of 4 1/4″ x 8 1/2″. Score at 4 1/4″ and 6 3/8″.  Fold on the score lines, so that the first fold is a ‘valley’ fold, and the 2nd fold is a mountain fold. This is your card base. Set it aside for now.

Set up a piece of white watercolour paper in your stamp platform. Now, ink the largest tree image with Shabby Shutters distress ink. Lightly spray with water, using a Mini Mister. Stamp firmly onto the watercolour paper. Now, ink up the same stamp with Cracked Pistachio distress ink, but only in random places on the stamp. Again, mist lightly with water, and then stamp firmly. Now clean and remove that stamp. Line up the shaded image stamp in the middle of the stamped images. Cover that stamp with Mowed Lawn ink, spray with water, and stamp firmly.  Clean & remove that stamp, and use a heat tool to dry your watercolour paper.

ADD THE DETAILS

Now, place the baubles stamp on your stamped image, and pick it up with the stamp platform lid. Cover the baubles image with Versamark ink, and stamp firmly. Cover with red glitter embossing powder, and set with a heat tool. Replace the panel into the platform, and now line up the star, tinsel and tree base stamps. Cover those with Versamark ink, and stamp firmly. Next, cover those stamped images with Silver embossing powder, and heat set.

Line up the sentiment on a strip of watercolour paper, and stamp with Versamark ink. Cover with the same Silver embossing powder, and heat set. Now, use the star image on a clear block, and randomly stamp it repeatedly in the upper left and lower right corners of a 4″ x 4″ light green cardstock. Cover with the Silver embossing powder, and heat set.  Next, use a blending tool and add Vintage Photo distress oxide ink around the edges of the tree oval, the 4″ x 4″ green cardstock,  and the sentiment strip, to give it an  aged look.

Now die cut the tree image with an Oval die, and a second slightly larger oval in the dark green cardstock you used for the card base.  Now layer all of the pieces together onto the 4″ x 4″ cardstock with the silver stars. Attach this piece to the card base, by putting glue on the small 2 1/8″ x 4 1/4″ section, and attaching the top of the tree panel to it. This is what your card will look like, closed.

ADD THE SENTIMENT

Layer the sentiment strip with a slightly larger strip of the light green cardstock. Attach it to the bottom of the inside of the card base, about 1/4″ from the bottom. Now, lift the top of the card, and prop the bottom of it against the top of the sentiment strip. This is what your card will look like, from the side.

To finish off the card front, I added a few silver stars that I had in my stash.
