Tuesday with Tara {take 171}

Happy Tuesday!  Today I’ve got a sweet & simple card featuring my fave new set from Lawn Fawn, Thanks a Latte.  This set has two mugs and a fun variety of seasonal accessories and sentiments to take you through fall & winter.

I kept my card design simple… not quite wanting to leave autumn themed card making, I used Color Burst for my background- a combo of Burnt Orange (Earth Tones) & Liquid Metal in copper (from Heavy Metals set) on water color card stock, which I die cut with a Stacked Deckle die by Tim Holtz.  I stamped the two cups onto white cardstock and colored them with my (much neglected) Copic Markers.  I’m definitely out of practice with the coloring, but will be playing with these cuties some more and see what else I can come up with…

I finished everything off with a simple white embossed sentiment on a black strip the width of my card.  It’s simple, but I hope you like it!

Mark your calendars & save some time to browse through another BLOG HOP coming up on Friday, October 19- we will also be kicking off a new CHALLENGE GROUP on facebook and there will be prizes for both, so we hope you’re ready to comment and play along with us!  See you back here then!

Inky hugs,

Tara

Tuesday with Tara {take 123}

Happy Tuesday!  Today’s card is built on an old background I created which I hadn’t managed to turn into a card… I shared it here on the blog in it’s original form, and got a bit of a chuckle when I went looking for the original post.  Miracles do happen folks, I completed a card that I started back in September 2015!  LOL  If you want details on my yummy background, please visit that post. Today I’m going to share how I completed the card 🙂

Textured backgrounds like this one can be a bit tricky to work with… and I’ve actually pulled this one out several times and tried layering different things over it.  I finally decided to use the images from the Lawn Fawn pumpkin spice set to create another autumn-ish card before I transition fully into Christmas card mode!

I wanted to use the dies for the stamp set, so came up with a fun stacked mug design for my card.  I stamped and die cut three mugs, then cut slits in two of them to play with the stacking arrangement.  I used my background design to pull colors for my mugs and pulled out my Copic markers to see if I still knew how to use them… my goal was quick coloring, so my blending is less than awesome, but it worked!  I had this cute sentiment from Impression Obsession I thought worked well with the images, so stamped it on a pre-cut label shape, which I trimmed down to align with the card fold.  Once everything was assembled, I added touches of Distress Stickles to be my spice.

I believe Distress Stickles have been discontinued, but if you find some you should grab them up!  Or use them if you have some in your stash- they dry with a matte finish, leaving just the glitter behind, no glossy residue.  This makes them perfect as a spicy accent on my mugs of deliciousness (looks more like a mocha than a pumpkin spice latte to me, this time around!).  I used two brownish colors from my stash for this look.

Here’s a bit of a closer look at the card (I couldn’t bear to crop out all the leaves in the first photo!)

I challenge you this week… pull something out of that pile of ‘unfinished projects’ and see what you can do to turn it into a finished piece.  It feels pretty great!

Inky hugs,

Tara

Tuesday with Tara {take 116}

Happy Tuesday!  Today’s card is very simple… but it features one of my favorite things, coffee, together with some great images from Concord & 9th.

The coffee spill effect on my central point was created with the splatter/shadow type leaf shape from the set, inked with two colors of Distress Ink and misted with water.  It’s kinda a funky shape thats fun to use behind the sentiment instead of behind the lace leaf that it was designed for!

I used a shimmery silver embossing powder over brown ink and it ended up somewhat translucent over the text and the little heart on the coffee cup.  I decided to play up that shimmer and use silver glitter paper, bling and some brown crinkle ribbon to complete the card.

For a neutral colored card, there’s actually quite a bit of shimmer going on!  The background of my card was simply stamped, repeating the sentiment in a staggered fashion in two different shades of brown Distress Oxide Ink.  I added a few hearts to fill in open spaces and then inked over it all, going darker from the edges in, with Vintage Photo Distress Ink.

We have much to be thankful for… but every day I start with being thankful for coffee 🙂

Inky hugs,

Tara
