One Layer Winter Card with Concord & 9th

Concord and 9th happy winter 1

Hi Everyone!

I hope you are all well and staying safe in these trying times. Those of you dealing with kids back in school I wish you all the best for whatever situation you are faced with.

I have a one layer card for you today. These haven’t always been easy for me to do and sometimes I still struggle with them but today’s card came together pretty easy.

Concord and 9th happy winter 2

I started with stamping the image a little off to the right making sure to leave enough space on the left for my ‘patterned paper.’ I used the distress oxide minis to create my paper. I chose 6 colors – 3 blues and 3 greens – and pressed the cube onto the paper and dragged it off the edge. Once I filled up the side I stamped the little images on top.

Next I grabbed a blender pen and coloured in the image with the same colors in the ‘paper’ and a few more.
I chose to use a bigger sentiment because it balances well with the larger image on my card and to help ground the image.

A few tips for one layer cards:
– use one larger image
– if using smaller images cluster them together
– keep the colors simple (I did use quite a few but they were all shades of each other so that helps to keep it simple)
– larger sentiments work well with large images
– smaller sentiments work well with smaller images.

I hope this tips make sense and help you if you struggle with one layer cards.

Happy Stampin’

and thanks so much for visiting!

Stay safe everyone!!
Susan

Get Ready for Fall

It’s that time of year again. Back to school, and get ready for fall. It’s Deb here, from the Design Team. Today’s word for the Scrap ‘N Stamp Daily Challenge is ‘leaves’. So far, the only ones that have fallen in my yard are because of the  hot dry weather. But soon enough, they’ll start putting on their dazzling show of colours for us! For my card today, I’ve jumped ahead to the show of colours.

GORGEOUS LEAVES

To create today’s card, I used a combination of stamps & dies from Wendy Vecchi, Concord & 9th and MFT.  Here’s a look at the completed card.Get Ready For Fall

I admit – fall colours are my favourite! The rich jewel tones are so pretty, and seem to give warmth to chilly days.

CARD DETAILS

Start with a piece of white cardstock, set up in your stamp platform. Next, line  up the Concord & 9th Uplifting Thoughts leaf image stamp on either the top or bottom, horizontally. Next, use the Gina K. Autumn Collection ink cubes in Faded Brick, Honey Mustard and Tomato Soup to ink up the leaves. Apply the ink randomly to the stamp, and then blend the colours using a small ink applicator. Stamp down onto the cardstock, and then move the cardstock up or down, depending on where  you started with your stamping. Line up the cardstock so that after you re-ink the stamp again, you are stamping down next to the first row of leaves. Repeat this one more time, until the cardstock is covered with leaves.  Now, clean and remove the stamp and cardstock. Use the MFT Wonky Stitched Rectangle Dies  with a Big Shot to die cut the stamped piece to size.

Next, set up another smaller piece of white cardstock in the platform. Set up the Wendy Vecchi Country Flowers flower stamp. Stamp two flowers, both the base colour and top detail layer. I used a combination of Sweet Corn, Honey Mustard, Tomato Soup and the Faded Brick for the flowers & flower centers. Repeat this to stamp 1 set of leaves.  Next, use the coordinating dies that come with this set, and a Big Shot, to die cut the images.

For the sentiment, die cut the Concord & 9th Fabulous Phrases dies with the Lawn Fawn Sparkle Paper. Die cut the word once in sparkle paper, and once in black. Glue the words together, slightly offset. Finally, add some sparkle with the Nuvo Glimmer Pen in Midas Touch.

Now, you can layer everything together!

Tuesday with Tara {take 256} Mug of Sunshine

Happy Tuesday!  Today I’m bringing you a big ol’ Mug of Sunshine, combining images & words from ‘Hello Sunshine Turnabout‘ by Concord & 9th with ‘I Like Big Ones‘ by Picket Fence Studios and a fab oldie, the ‘Rays‘ stencil by Tim Holtz.

For the card background, I inked the Rays with two shades of Distress Oxide ink, Fossilized Amber & Spiced Marmalade.  I blended them with a broad Life Changing Blender Brush.  I like to work from light to dark, so went from the outer edges of the stencil towards the center.  I heat embossed the ‘Big One’ mug in Letter It Navy Embossing Powder on deep yellow card stock, then blended some ink onto it for some shading.  I stamped the sunshine design in the same Marmalade ink over the image, then added the sentiment in navy ink over them.

I finished off the card base with some crinkle ribbon wrapped around a blue textured panel.  I added a few sequins for a bit of extra shimmer- these are from the Ocean Breeze set by Picket Fence Studios.

I hope my card brings some SUNSHINE to your day!  I know a lot of BC is getting a ton of rain right now… if I could, I’d gladly share some of my heat & southern sunshine with you!

Inky hugs,

Tara
