Stretching My Leaf Stamps for Fall

Can you believe it? It’s the final days of September! We are well into fall where I live in Ontario, and so my prompt today for this month’s Random Acts of Cardness Challenge is LEAVES. Of course they don’t have to be autumn leaves, but to me, it seemed appropriate. Normally I would grab a maple leaf stamp or die, but I decided to challenge myself a bit and use leaves that are perhaps not designed to be used on their own:

For this card, I am using two leaf stamps from a Concord & 9th set called Filled In Florals. Using the rock ‘n roll technique, I randomly stamped my leaves down the left side of the panel, using yellow and orange Memento inks. I don’t have a deckle trimmer (psst, Santa!), so I carefully used a deckle frame die to add interest to the right edge of my panel. The sentiment is embossed with glitter embossing powder, and I added a trio of enamel dots from my stash to finish everything off.

For my second card, I decided to experiment with some alcohol lift ink!

Okay, I was actually planning to play with alcohol inks, but I’m still a total beginner with them, so my inked panel was… not pretty. I grabbed the larger of my two leaf stamps, tapped it on the alcohol lift pad, stamped it on my inked panel, and finally stamped it onto regular cardstock. My garish panel made for subtly coloured images! I like how it gives a completely different look to the leaves. Again, being a relative newbie, I now know that the process will stain your clear stamps. Word to the wise if you like to keep your stamps pristine. 😉 I kept the rest of my card simple, with a few scored lines and a sentiment from Lawn Fawn’s Thanks a Latte.

If you decide to make a card with leaves on it, I hope you’ll add it to the Scrap ‘n Stamp challenge page on Facebook! Thanks for checking in today.

The Heat is On!

It’s Friday, yay, and today’s word for Scrap ‘n Stamp’s Random Acts of Cardness challenge is… HEAT! When I picked the prompt, I certainly didn’t realize how extreme the heat would be in some parts of Canada this summer. Let’s hope things settle down soon.
I’m representing heat on my card in two ways… heat embossing and a warm colour palette:

This floral set by Concord & 9th makes everything easy! (stamp set, stencils and dies) I used the biggest stamp in the set, which as you can tell, is larger than an A2 card base! It’s stamped in Versafine onyx black ink and embossed in black sparkle embossing powder. Then comes the magically easy part! 😀  The stencil set includes ones to colour in just the leaves, just the flowers, both at the same time (say if you wanted a more monochromatic look); and also a mask to cover the flowers to colour in a background and a flower mask with background stripes, which is what I used. For easy blending, I used distress inks in squeezed lemonade, carved pumpkin and crackling campfire (heat!) for the flowers, and rustic wilderness for the leaves. I used squeezed lemonade to add the stripes along the edges, letting them fade toward the centre. For the sentiment, I added crackling campfire to white cardstock before embossing a birthday sentiment from My Favorite Things’ Birthday Bears.

If you have yet to try a stamp-and-stencil set, I highly recommend it! If shopping is on your agenda this weekend, don’t forget you can use the code 10Lindsey for 10% off your order! Have a good one!

Waves and Wishes

Hello to you. I hope you all had a good weekend. It certainly was hot here in Southern Ontario!

For today’s Random Act of Cardness I thought I would do cards with dimensional sentiments. For this technique we use dies and build the sentiment up from the card base. You can use any colour you wish for your die inserts, but in the case of the above card I used white.

The bottom layer is navy, as is the card base, then 2 layers of 110lb white card stock and finally the designer paper layer. In the picture below you can see the build of the dies.

For my next card I again used white for the build, but also included a black die cut and the top layer is a partially stamped layer of the white card stamped with the Aster in black ink.

First I stamped 3 of the Aster flowers on my card base using Memento ink. On another piece of white card I stamped 4 more flowers, the leaves and the butterfly, and proceeded to colour all but one of the medium flowers using Copic markers.

I colour from darkest colour to lightest colour. So in the case of the pink flowers, I started with the RV25 and ended with the RV13. The same applies to the green. For the butterfly I coloured with the yellow, then on parts went over the yellow with the RV25.

Once the colouring was complete I die cut the pieces with the coordinating dies, then arranged them on my card and attached using foam squares. I added in the sentiment, with the black die cut on the bottom, 3 layers of white card and 1 layer of the stamped Aster die. I attached using Nuvo adhesive and had the black die cut shadowing the white, with more showing as the sentiment went across. I hope that makes sense.
