Distress Oxide

Tuesday with Tara {take 97}

Happy Tuesday!

This week I played some more with Distress Oxide Inks and a beautiful stamp set by Altenew called ‘faithful feathers’ (it was in the online store, but it seems to be gone today- must be sold out!  I’m sure Raya can order more though!)

The stamp set includes a variety of sentiments and several layers of a single feather design, I used the solid base and the outline for this card.  I inked the solid feather repeatedly with two colors of Distress Oxide, misted with water before stamping.  On some I was more generous with water, which allowed for more oxidizing of the inks and some bleeding, which I thought gave a soft & pretty look!  I blended some ink into the white spaces and layered iced spruce through a stencil for more texture. Finally (after I was sure everything was dry!) I heat embossed the feather outline stamp over the solid images in white.

It made a very pretty background, so I kept everything else simple with a white embossed sentiment on colored cardstock and some thin, colored jute wrapped around the card.

There are some really great elements in this stamp set, so I’m sure you will see more in the future!

Hope you enjoyed- have a creative day!

Inky hugs,

Tara

Happy Tuesday!

Today I want to share with you a tag I finished up… it started as an experiment with Distress Oxide (the background is all faded jeans on a black tag) and I finished it up with some new botanical layers from The new idea-Ology release by Tim Holtz.

My background was inked and stenciled with Faded Jeans Distress Oxide on black, then I added some simply stamped roses by Dylusions over it.  I decided to bring some spring to it with butterflies and flowers from the new botanical layers- so many great pieces in this package, it is stuffed full with 83 printed & die cut shapes!

I tied everything together with a bit more yellow… I inked up some book print with gesso using Distress Oxide in fossilized amber & Distress Ink in wild honey.  I blended the colors with a wet paint brush then spritzed with water to see a bit of extra Oxide action 🙂

I selected a sweet sentiment from this “everyday greetings” stamp set by mama elephant and glued my layers together, then finished it off with yellow silk ribbon and touches of nuvo glitter drops.  These are a fun addition that’s like a mix of glossy accents & stickles!

Happy Tuesday!

In just a couple weeks we will be celebrating Easter… and spring is in the air (the green grass behind my card is my actual lawn!!!) so I wanted to ink up some stamps that had never been inked.  Even though I love these Tim Holtz blueprints designs, I usually forget I have them until after Easter!

This year I decided to combine the bunny & egg images with seasonal chit chat stickers and some book pages that I prepared with white gesso… I also wanted to play some more with my Distress Oxide inks 💛

My card base is 5.5″ square, and I started with a stenciled background featuring Distress Oxide. I absolutely love how crisp & vibrant these inks are on kraft… especially after they are misted with water. Here’s a look of the background before I layered my stamped images over it. You can see little splatter marks if you look closely:

I added a bit extra over a doily mask in the top left corner afterwards to balance things out.  As I mentioned, I stamped the images on gesso primed bookprint and it was interesting seeing how soft the Distress Oxide came across on it (applied with an inking tool).

With the egg, I also painted some blue shadow using water mixed with the Distress Oxide ink. I learned that you can lift/remove color with water as well by dabbing a rag over wet spots. Pretty cool technique I will try again!  I splattered the same blue in the background as well, and added some raised sparkle details with Nuvo drops.

I inked around the bunny image, leaving him to be white chocolate 🙂   A few details finish off the card- a chiffon flower by Prima, a fun metal clip with some distress dyed Crinkle ribbon. Hope you like it!
