One Layer Wonder Card!

Hello friends and welcome! Today’s cue word for the monthly challenge in “One Layer”. And I did just that!  This is difficult for me. I always love to add dimension to my cards whether that be with layers of cardstock or using foam adhesive. But honestly, I think I nailed it with this card!

I started by making a card base out of watercolour paper. I’ve never done this before as I think it’s a waste of valuable paper, haha. But in the end, I think it’s awesome and the only way to achieve an actual one layer card. I used the You Make Me Smile stamp set from Gina K Designs as my focal image. I used Versafine Smokey Grey Ink as I wanted to go for a more vintage look rather than stark black.

For the colouring, I used a set of Derwent water-colour pencils. I also had some help from my cat, Francis!!  After the colouring was done, I used some masking tape to mask around the image.

You can see I’ve chosen Tattered Rose and Antique Linen Distress Inks. I used these to add colour around the image. After removing the tape, it leaves a gorgeous frame/border.

I stamped the sentiment from the same set in the same Smokey Grey ink. And that’s when I called it done! No other embellishments added…which is also difficult for me!

I love how this turned out and hope you do too!!

Stunning Stamping with Mama Elephant

Hello friends!  My name is Dawn and I am at the little mennonite blog.  I have been blogging and card making for about 8 or 9 years, and scrapbooking on and off since I was a young teen.  I am so happy to be apart of the Scrap n Stamp team!  Today I will be working with the Mama Elephant stamp set Botanic Hello to create this simple, stunning card.

Directions:

Stamp the Mama Elephant’s Botanic Hello with Tuxedo Black Memento Ink onto white cardstock.  You need to use Tuxedo Black Memento Ink so you can colour the image with alcohol based markers without having the stamped image run.  Colour the Botanic image with alcohol based markers such as Tombow or Chameleon.  I recommend this set.  If you use colours with a few shades of difference between each colour to get a more stunning look.  (As oppose to using colours that are very closely related.)  After the colouring was complete I cut out the image with scissors made for fine details. Use glossy accents on all of the stamens.  Adhere image to an white A2 card front using foam squares.

Add Gelly Roll gold gel pen to the letters for added interest.

Stamp the “awesome” sentiment from the Mama Elephant stamp set with VersaMark ink.  Using Lawn Fawn’s white embossing powder on Lawn Fawn’s Black Licorice Cardstock heat emboss the sentiment.  Get a good heat gun here.  I recommend getting a brand named heat gun – from experience a generic brand does not last long.  Adhere the sentiment with a strip of Be Creative 3mm Tape (a Canadian product!) and give to someone AWESOME!

You’re The Best with Penny Black Stamps!

Hello and welcome back!! It’s Laurie and I’m here to share a rather clean and simple card using products from Penny Black. I also incorporate on small stamp from Concord and 9th but we’ll get to that later!

I love Penny Black products. They are so beautiful but also run the range from elegant to cutesy. Today, I used the Sunny Wishes stamp set.  This is a gorgeous set that includes 3 large, different floral images.  I had yet to use this set because I was fairly intimidated by it.  The images are VERY fine-lined.  Which, if you are anything like me, gets a little nerve wracking because chances are, you’ll colour outside the lines!! Colouring outside the lines can look amazing. I just can’t seem to let go of what I was taught in elementary school, hahaha!

Anyway, I stamped the largest image onto some white cardstock with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink. This has always been my preferred ink when I use my alcohol markers.  I coloured in the flowers and the butterflies INSIDE the lines but left a little white space on each to act as a highlight as well as to make it look “messy”. I have no idea if I achieved that look at all.

Next, came the labour of love. I decided to fussy cut this image out. Cutting around the entire thing was simple, but I decided to cut some of the inner portions away, as well.  Ugh.  It was tricky but if I made this card again, I would do it the same way because I love the look!

I wanted to create some “controlled splatter” on the front of the card base.  I love the look of black paint splatters on cards but have issues with achieving a good mix of paint…plus the mess.  I took a small stamp from the Hello Lovely stamp set from Concord and 9th and stamped it randomly onto the card front. I did do some minor stamp surgery to be able to get more mileage out of the stamp.

I did a test run on how I wanted my image and sentiment to look and decided that the card front was missing something. I added a 1/4″ strip on black cardstock to the left side and it seemed to balance everything nicely.

It was here that I decided to stamp, colour and fussy cut an extra butterfly. I also partially stamped the sentiment to read “You’re the Best”.  This comes from the Penny Black set, Choose Happy.

I adhered the floral image and butterfly with foam squares for a bit of dimension and used the Memento Ink to stamp the sentiment.

I added a bit of Clear Wink of Stella to the butterflies and some Nuvo Crystal Glaze to the flower centres and vase to finish off this card!!

Thanks for stopping by!!  I hope you found a bit of inspiration here today!!

See you soon!!
