Lawn Fawn, The Great Stitched Pumpkin

Happy Almost Halloween. Nancy F on the Scrap’n Stamp blog today with a fun little easel card inspired by the classic Peanuts book, “The Legend of the Great Pumpkin”. For this card, which should have been two but I had a little oops along the way, I am featuring the Lawn Fawn Stitched Pumpkin dies, as well the amazing Tim Holtz distress oxides from Ranger Ink.

I am going to share the close up of the cards here and link to my blog for the full description of the process.

Easel card inspired by the legend of the great pumpkin, using Lawn Fawn stitched pumpkin die and stitched frame die, along with distress oxide backgrounds

My inspiration as I stated above was the classic Peanuts book, “The Legend of the Great Pumpkin”. I had it sitting in my room thanks to my little monkeys. I knew that the Lawn Fawn Stitched Pumpkin dies would be perfect to try and recreate the cover of the book and that I could continue with the distress challenge when creating the backgrounds. These inks are my go-to for everything the last few years, they are just so versatile.

I created the night’s skyline with more colours than I think I needed by the time I assembled everything, lol. I used mustard seed, carved pumpkin, seedless preserves, wilted violet chipped saphire and blueprint sketch.

I die cut numerous pumpkins and leave from the Lawn Fawns Stitched Pumpkin and Stitched Pumpkin frame dies, which also have the little face, leafs and stems included. I also die-cut grass from another Lawn Fawn set and created my own stencil for the moon using a circle die and acetate.

I decided to create an easel card to switch it up a little as I have been getting bored with the same old thing. I hope I can inspire you to try something a little different

For more of an in-depth look at how I created the card please head over to my blog.

Hope you have a wonderful week and a fantastic and safe Halloween.

Nancy F

Happy Tuesday!

Today I thought I’d share some Halloween tags with you! I made these a couple of years ago for a blog hop we had featuring Tim Holtz’s “Ancestors” Paper Dolls (which are on sale right now) and all my tags show how fantastic Distress Oxide Inks are simply stamped or stenciled on BLACK paper. Hope you like them!

Freaky Friday Tags

(see the full original post from Oct 13, 2017)

I’ve been enjoying getting creative with the Paper Dolls by Tim Holtz, and these new additions add a creepy touch to the mix. There are a few seasonal images included, with costumes and pumpkins, as well as some regular type portraits with creepy expressions!  It’s a nice mix if you want a variety of paper dolls to work with!  I chose to use some of the ‘regular’  images and make a creepy/romantic tag, pairing a couple of single dolls together.

My plan was to create a set of tags that could be attached to treat bags for Halloween- if it happens, this one will go on the one I give my husband!

The technique

I started with black #8 tags and Distress Oxide Ink, stamping a background pattern (numbers by Dyan Reavely) directly on the tag. Then I continued, applying the same ink through a stencil (birds by Dina Wakley) over it to create my background design. I am not a big Halloween crafter, so chose some ‘neutral’ designs that I thought would work with the overall feel I was going for.  It’s good to have basics in your stash!  I selected my paper dolls and chose to add a few spots of color to them with Distress Markers.  I didn’t have a perfect match, but wanted a monochromatic look for this tag so went with a similar shade of purple.  The ink puddled a little bit in some places, so I dabbed with a cloth until I got the desired look.

I wrapped some sheer black ribbon with twine to add texture. Then I finished it off with a metal embellishment (this fancy lock is by Prima) and some occasions chit chat stickers.

The tags

I created a couple more tags as well, which you can see all together here.   Here’s a shot of the backgrounds I started with…

… and the set of finished tags:

There is still some time for Halloween crafting, especially if you keep it simple & spooky 🙂

Inky hugs,

Tara

Tuesday with Tara {take 172}

Happy Tuesday!  I hope you all have had as much fun with our latest blog hop as I have, and I can’t wait to see the response we will get to our new challenge!   I’ve got a second card with the challenge theme (Purple, Orange & Green- not just for Halloween) to share with you today.  I made several backgrounds with the same three colors of Distress Oxide ink colors (wilted violet, spiced marmalade, twisted citron) as I was preparing for this so naturally had to turn at least two of them into cards…

This background was created on glossy Alcohol Ink card stock, then finished with a light cover of Distress Micro Glaze, which brings the gloss back out and reveals all the layers of color.  Prior to glazing, you have a very muted background.  I found using a sponge made my glaze a bit too thick, so I applied a small amount with my finger and buffed it over the surface with a cotton rag.  I selected a paper doll from Tim Holtz Ancestors embellishments (I think this was in the ‘halloween’ themed release, but can’t be sure since mine are all stored together!) and added some butterfly wings (from the botanical ephemera pack).  I wanted to pair her with this cute sentiment I picked up, by Impression Obsession.  I rarely purchase Halloween stamps myself, but thought this one would work with a variety of images 🙂  It was stamped in Twisted Citron Distress Oxide ink.

I highlighted the word “BOO-TIFUL” in my sentiment by tracing over it with Nuvo Jewel Drops in Key Lime.  I needed a little something to finish off my card, and remembered these lace borders by Tim Holtz.  Mine are ‘vintage’ strip dies from before he started making thinlets, but this lace design has been re-imagined as a thinlet and looks like it’s even better now!  I cut it from book print, inked the top edge with spiced marmalade and threaded some thin purple jute through the holes.  Normally I like to trim a clean edge on a card front, but since this was so delicate and had jute through it, I wrapped it around the back and inside front of the card slightly to give a stronger finish.

It’s a simple card, but I hope you enjoy the mix of elements with the background colors & textures!  And I hope you’ll join us with our #SNSpurpleorangegreen challenge on facebook as well 🙂  Remember, you’ve got until Nov. 1 to play along with our challenge and have a chance to win a $50 gift certificate to the SNS online store!  Woo!

I hope you’re having a great week!  I can’t wait to see what you create…

Inky hugs,

Tara
