Tuesday with Tara {take 345} Blessed & Bling

Happy Tuesday!  My inspiration for today’s card is the word for Day 30 on our Facebook Challenge group– Bling! I’m trying to slip creatively into spring mode, so I played with a few shades of Distress Oxide Ink for a fun splattered background with ink blending.  I then die cut some assorted sizes of the Tim Holtz Stacked Hexagons and played around with a layout for them on a mini slim (3.5×6″) panel I had cut out.

For the BLING- I used a glittery die cut word ‘blessed’ that I had leftover from one of my cards from earlier this month.  I wanted to use some tiny paper flowers I had, some of which have glittery petals, so I added some gold to their centers to tie it all together.  I trimmed white pearly card stock to layer onto my card base and finished everything off with some gold toned bling!  I know at a glance this is not a seriously blingy card, but trust me- the elements are all there 🙂

I love the soft looks you get ink blending with Distress Oxide Inks, even using vibrant colors!  It’s perfect for spring and all those little speckles have me craving Robin’s Eggs Candy!  Yum…

Hope you like my simple, blingy card!

Inky hugs,

Tara

Tuesday with Tara {take 323} Fall-ish Thanks

Happy Tuesday!  I think I mentioned previously that I’m struggling a bit getting into Christmas card mode (but I’m aiming towards sharing as many as I can starting next week!)… So, when I pulled out this stencil I thought “candy cane stripes” and decided to give it a pink twist.  And then somehow I ended up abandoning that idea altogether and I paired it with some delicate skeleton leaves for a rather fall-ish card, with a feminine twist!

One of my favorite things about autumn is that my photo props for autumn cards can be found just laying around in the yard… I didn’t find any pink or coral leaves (though I have seen them!) but there were plenty yellow, and enough red that I just had to sneak one in.   This card is inspired by our challenge word, PASTE and I used some clear embossing paste on the striped design over some Distress Ink.

This stencil (another from the Vicki Boutin set I got) has rows of uneven stripes, which I love but I just wanted one along the edge for this card.  As you can see, I taped it off with washing tape and then inked through it.  I then swiped embossing paste over it before lifting the stencil to let it dry.   The gloss of the paste gives a nice sheen to it, similar to what you might get with clear embossing powder.

These skeleton leaves dies are some favorites of mine, and I couldn’t resist cutting them from a watercolor background I’d made and discarded during another project- there was just enough left to cut these 2 leaves and the ‘thanks’ as well!

Die cutting the ‘thanks’ sentiment happened out of necessity… I really wanted to stamp it with an ombre using the same kitsch flamingo ink and a yellow, but after getting a blah blend and then overstamping in a darker color that I didn’t line up quite right… yeah, I gave up and layered the die cut word over it to create a shadow effect.

Since I was aiming for an ombre color scheme here, I splattered some orange gloss spray (Cheddar!) over the card and tied it all together with some yellow twine.  I used some gold glitter glue to attach my sequins for a bit of extra fun.

I hope this fall-ish card makes you smile today!  Thanks for stopping by!

Inky hugs,

Tara

Tuesday with Tara {take 320} Blessed to Know You

Happy Tuesday!  I’m working on getting myself mentally prepared for Thanksgiving next weekend (it’s a little bit harder when you live in the south, y’all), so a card celebrating how blessed I am seemed fitting!  Of course, I’m using the ‘blessed’ dies from the Honey Bee “Bitty Buzzwords” set (it’s just so pretty!) and I decided to pair it with an older stamp set by Concord & 9th which is still in stock- Just because.

I started this project digging through some scraps to find something I wanted to die cut my word out of… here I’ve used some orange metallic card stock over a background made from Dina Wakley Media sprays.   Once I started with yellow, I really wanted to find a sunflower image to pair with it… but that’s just going to have to be something that goes on my wish list, I guess!  I noticed the sketchy blossom in this stamp set, however, and decided together with the leaves, branches & splatters that it would be a good fit!   I stamped in Distress Oxide Inks exclusively- Crackling Campfire, Wild Honey, Spiced Marmalade & Vintage Photo.

I added a bit of shimmer to finish off my otherwise simple card.  While I don’t have any of the Mica Sprays, I do still have a good supply of Perfect Pearl Mist (which I’m guessing are like the Mica Sprays without the dye in them) and so I’ve used the color Sunflower here.  If you’ve got the Perfect Pearls powders, you could create your own sprays simply by mixing them with water in a spritzer bottle.   A bit of clear bling finished everything off!

Plan to join us back here on FRIDAY for our upcoming Blog Hop, it should be a great way to kick off the holiday weekend!

Inky hugs,

Tara
