Kraft

There is beauty in simplicity… and joy in the color yellow!  Today I decided to try some abstract watercolor in shades of yellow & green Distress Ink (I started with Squeezed lemonade and Twisted Citron & added a few more for texture & fun).

I have done this technique with florals in the past, but thought it would work great with this lemon stamp by Picket Fence Studios as well!  I first trimmed some water color Cardstock to the size I wanted and used the image as my guide to apply ink directly from the pads to my work surface (looking at the clear stamp upside down helped me with the placement for the yellow & green!).

Next, I misted the ink with water and smooshed the cut piece of Cardstock into it.  I repeated it with a bit more water and a second piece since I planned to make two cards (I had a little mishap with some coffee though, so that one has some extra color to it!).  I set it aside to dry for a while, then stamped using my stamp platform (you could use your Misti or another tool if you have one) to get a nice, dark, black image. Once again, I let it dry before adding a bit more color to a few spots on my lemons & leaves.

I knew I wanted to use a sentiment from Tim Holtz’s Metallic Sticker Book, and after spilling coffee all over my work surface I was definitely ready for some simplicity!  I chose a pre-cut Kraft square card as my base and added some pale yellow corrugated paper as a single layer between them.  I mounted the sticker on a bit of black and with a bit of Sookwang/Be Creative tape it was done.  Just in case the spilled coffee came back to show it’s face, I stacked some ink pads on top of my card for a few hours before I took photos.

Fun fact- while this is not my greatest photography, I had to use my (artificial) lemon tree as my backdrop for this card!  This tree stands beside our yellow front door in the spring & summer months and has fooled several people into sniffing it’s fruit 🙂
