Tuesday with Tara {take 240} Type Talk x2

Happy Tuesday!  It’s been a wild ride this week… so much has changed in our world and I know for many of us it means a LOT more time at home.  If you are one who is home, I hope you have been able to find some time to be creative.  We would LOVE to see what you’re making and especially if it includes stencils, we’d love to see it shared in our facebook group!  I am one who works in an “essential” industry (pharmacy) and have been too exhausted to even put much thought into creating… good thing I had these cards finished and ready to share with you today!

My cards feature the fabulous Type Talk stamp set by Concord & 9th.  For my first card, I’ve used the floral image that is part of the set, colored loosely with watercolor pencils in the neutral shades of brown and teal.  The typewriter was stamped onto some paper which I inked up with Frayed Burlap Distress Oxide Spray– the mix of colors in this single spray was the inspiration for the entire card.

As you can see, the card itself is pretty simple.  I fussy cut the two stamped elements and adhered them to a stitched edge die cut panel.  I embossed my sentiment in ivory and added some stamped dots in a row above and below it.  The fun details that finished it off were some white Nuvo Crystal Drops on my typewriter keys and a bit of thin twine.  As you can see there is a touch of glitter on the flowers as well.

Here’s a more masculine version of the card (very similar, but a smaller scale than this one I shared previously).  The typewriter was stamped on the same piece of inked cardstock as my other card.

I also used the fun interactive element that I featured on my previous card.  You can see it here, as well as a closer look at the typewrite keys.  I love how the Nuvo drops picked up some of the color from the paper, making the keys more ivory than a stark white.

Wishing you creative days ahead… whether you are in full quarantine or doing some sensible ‘social distancing’ be sure to spend some time MAKING something and enjoying the way the arts are coming together during these difficult days!

Inky hugs (from afar),

Tara

Stencil Us In Blog Hop

Welcome to the Scrap & Stamp March Blog Hop- STENCIL US IN!  The girls have been working to inspire you to try something new with the stencils in your stash (and perhaps you’ll add a few to your shopping cart)!  Leave some comments along the way for a chance to win a $50 gift certificate to the SNS online store.  If you’re shopping this weekend, you’ll enjoy 20% off all in stock stencils!  Sounds like a great time to try something new!

My card today features Repeat Tile Remnant (TCW2114), a 4×4 stencil by The Crafter’s Workshop.  I inked up my card with Distress Oxide Inks in Evergreen Bough and Forest Moss.  Since the stencil is so small, I had to put some thought into how I was going to use it.  I love pulling out texture pastes, but wasn’t quite ready for the mess I would make working on a larger panel!  Since I’ve been embracing GREEN lately (bring on spring!) I pulled out a couple shades of green Distress Oxide and experimented with the ‘repeat’ elements of the design.

I took some photos of the process, which I set up on my Make Art STAY-tion.  Here’s what the stenciling set up looked like…

Here’s how the stencil lined up to repeat.  I used a random blend of the two colors in varying intensities as I went up my panel (I was inking on a large tag which was precut from watercolor card stock).

Once I covered the tag, I decided to stagger the stencil to fill in some of the white space.  I kept a lighter hand for this step to add more color variety and texture.  The magnets in my STAY-tion really helped to keep the stencil in place as I went.  I think the hardest part was knowing when to stop and how much white space to leave!

I trimmed the panel to fit on a 5×7 kraft card, layering it on a dark grey card stock panel.  I cut a  Skeleton Leaf by Tim Holtz from the same paper stamped the sentiment beneath it.  It’s great to have get well cards on hand, and this lovely sentiment is from Scripty Sayings 2 by Gina K Designs.

I finished the card with some white Distress Spray Stain on the kraft card and a small bow from green crinkle ribbon.  Hope you like it!

Here’s the link lineup for our hop!  You’re off to see KIA next!  Have fun, and don’t forget to leave comments for a chance to win $50 to shop with in the SNS online store 🙂

Inky hugs,
Tara

Tuesday with Tara {take 215} Toucan Paradise

Happy Tuesday with Tara! I’ve got a card featuring the fun new Concord & 9th Stamp Set Toucan Paradise to share with you today! I fell in love with this set and the coordinating Tropical Vibes die set when I started seeing projects created with them on Instagram. (There’s also a matching die to this stamp set, but I don’t mind fussy cutting a bit so I am waiting on that one.) It was the leaves in both sets that grabbed me, but I have to admit this bold toucan has won my heart!

Ink Choices.

I had to put my own twist on this stamp set… stamping the great mix of leaves, flowers & textural elements with Distress Oxide Ink on a kraft card! I started by die cutting a square of patterned paper with Lawn Fawn’s Dotted Square Stackables and stamping my sentiment on it. Next I selected a variety of shades of green Distress Oxide Inks that I thought would work well with the patterned paper. I chose Mowed Lawn, Peeled Paint & Cracked Pistachio. The first two were chosen to match, the third was chosen for the fun, tropical feeling it would add.

Details.

Since my die cuts were square and my sentiment was not, I stamped it along the right edge and added a strip of burlap along edge. This added texture to my card and gave me a focal point to stamp the leaves around & behind. It also gave a good place to rest my stamped toucan.

I love how the Distress Oxides stamp as layers on the kraft base, allowing you to really see all the shades of green I was working with.

I stamped my toucan in a couple different color variations before deciding on the palette for this card. In the ended, I went with Spiced Marmalade & Fossilized Amber as the colors for the beak as well as flowers & design elements added to the card background. Spots of Nuvo- Pale Gold Crystal Drops & Honey Gold Glitter Drops, add more texture & shine to this card.

You’ll see another card in the future with the other color variation I tried. Part of the fun with this Toucan Paradise stamp set is all the colors you can use with it! So many happy, tropical vibes can be created quickly & easily!

Summer is quickly coming to an end, but I hope this Tuesday with Tara card featuring Concord & 9th’s Toucan Paradise stamp set gives you a little bit of summer to hang on to! I had a lot of fun working with it and Distress Oxides on kraft.

Inky hugs,

Tara
