Kuretake Zig Clean Color Brushes

THANK YOU

Hi Everyone!  Happy Thanksgiving to all that are celebrating this weekend. We did our dinner on Saturday and even with a power failure during part of the evening it was fantastic. Our daughters and their boyfriends were all here, we ate turkey, drank wine, played games and laughed a LOT.

The word prompt for today is Thanks and seeing as we’re celebrating Thanksgiving in Canada I thought it was appropriate.

My card is really easy to do. For those of you that say watercoloring is too hard you need to check out the Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers – they make it so easy. I started by stamping one of the flowers from MFT’s Painted Poppies stamp set with Versafine Nocturne ink twice. Next I chose two red markers and added the darker one to the base of each petal – about 1/4 of the way up. I grabbed the lighter red and overlapping where the darker color ended I added the lighter color and pulled it out further – about 1/2 of the way up the petal. I finished off the petal with a small wet paintbrush pulling the color the rest of the way leaving a little bit of white at the tips. I did this to both of the flowers. On one of them I added a yellow center.

Next I stamped out the leaves, colored them in with two shades of green marker and drew in some fine lines in the center. I fussy cut everything out. The flower with the yellow center I cut around the top two petals and layered it on top of the other flower with some craft foam. I adhered the  it all to a panel that I had die cut with MFT’s Square Peek-a-Boo Window Die. The sentiment is from Penny Blacks Sentiment Collection and is stamped with Versafine Nocturne ink – this is one of my favorite black inks. I added craft foam behind the panel and the flower and added it to a white card base.

The layers on the flower don’t show that well in the pic but it sure adds some detail in real life.

Where ever you are today and if you’re celebrating Thanksgiving or not I hope you’ll join us in today’s challenge and share it with us over on the Facebook Challenge Page.

Happy Stampin’

and thanks so much for visiting!
Stay safe everyone!!

Cozy Companions for Fall

Hello there! It’s Deb here, from the Design Team. Today’s prompt for the Scrap ‘N Stamp Daily Challenge is ‘cozy’. That of course led me directly to my My Favorite Things Cozy Companions set for this fall themed card. These critters are doing what I love – curling up by the fireplace, with a book & favourite beverage.

COZY COMPANIONS

I know that this set is from last year, but it’s still one of my favourites! And with the new slimline card craze, you can create this cozy scene with room to spare.

Cozy Companions for Fall

CARD DETAILS

I knew that I wanted to watercolour the images, so I start with a piece of watercolour paper. Next, stamp the images in Nocturne ink. Make sure the ink is dry, before you start colouring. Use the Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers and a water brush for colouring. Apply the marker directly to the watercolour paper, and then use the water brush to ‘pull’ the colour into the image.  It’s a nice, meditative process to colour these images – just enjoy and choose your favourite colours.

Once the colouring is done, use the coordinating Cozy Companion dies with a Big Shot to die cut each image.  Now, prepare your card base. Take an 8 1/2″ x 7″ piece of cardstock, score & fold it in  half at 3 1/2″. Next, glue on a lighter green piece of cardstock. Now, to create the wallpaper look, add a strip from the Lavinia Dream-Scape Colour burst Collection to the top. Now you can add your die cut images, to create the scene. Finally, stamp the sentiment in Nocturne on a strip of white paper, and attach it over the fireplace, using foam tape or squares.

Cozy Companions for Fall

Do you have a friend or favourite person that you like to sit with, in front of a fire? Sometimes companionable silence is the best.

Hello Friend

This beautiful stamp is from Colorado Stamp Company and is called Missing You Peony. It is part of their Big and Bold Line of stamps, and I love it.

To start this card I knew I was going to down size the stamp. In doing this I needed to stamp and fussy cut the stamp on photocopy paper, as I would be doing some masking.

I am using Arches 140lb Cold Press watercolour paper for this card. I wanted my card panel to be 4.5 x 4.5 inches and not the 6 x 6 inches it is intended to be. In order to accomplish this I would be using petals from the flower as leaves, keeping them trimmed so one would not really notice that they were not “proper leaves”.

I masked off the petals I wanted as leaves and stamped the other petals using Ranger Ink in Vibrant Fuchsia. I then masked off the petals and stamped the leaves using Ranger Ink in Olive. This ensures that the details from the stamp remain and do not wash away when I watercolour.

To watercolour I am using Kuretake Clean Color Brushes in 2 colours only, being the Dark Pink and Olive. To lighten where needed I am watering down the colour.

To mat my piece I added cardstock in the deep pink and olive green colours, then attached it all to a pale green card base. I did this as some cards just do not suit a white base, and this is one of them.

I stamped the sentiment on a piece of the Arches watercolour paper using VersaFine Clair Ink in Glorious and attached it to the base using foam squares. I then added a few Nuvo Glitter drops around the card to finish.

Thank you for visiting today. I have attached Affiliate Links to the products I used for this card, at no extra cost to you.
