Daffodils Dancing

Kia back with you today to share this card of Daffodils Dancing by Penny Black. I have had this stamp for awhile yet have only used it recently, and as it turns out this is the perfect time of year for it.

For this card I used my Zig Clean Color Brushes, adding colour to the stamp, sometimes spritzing, sometimes not, as I stamped. I used 3 colours of green, being light green, May green and olive green. For the flower I used yellow, bright yellow, orange and scarlet red, and for the spathe’s I used a medium gray.

Once I was done with the stamp colouring I heat embossed using Nuvo Shimmering Pearl embossing powder, which added wonderful texture to the card. I then die cut the pieces with my wonky rectangle dies and attached the larger panel to my card base, and the smaller panel I attached using fun foam and Sookwang tape. I then painted the background of the small panel using paint from my watercolour palette, being Schmincke cadmium yellow light.

To finish my card I added a few drops of Nuvo Jewels. I did not add a sentiment to the outside as I am not sure how I will be using this card. I can always do that at another time.

I have done a video of this card which follows, along with Affiliate links for the products that I have used on this card. Thank you for visiting us here at Scrap’n Stamp.

Some Like it HOT blog hop

Welcome to our February Blog Hop- “Some like it HOT” this theme is all about hot beverages- coffee, tea, hot chocolate…

We will be giving away 9 prizes – one for each designer. 8 Some Like it Hot prize packs and one $50 gift Certificate Prizes will be chosen randomly from the people who comment.  We are especially excited as this is our first hop with the new design team, I hope you’ll take time to bookmark and explore each of their blogs and leave them some love 🙂  Here’s the full hop order & everyone’s links:

Tara (you are HERE at the SNS blog!)

And now let me jump in and show you my card!  I fell in love with this cutie from Penny Black “Saying a Latte” and have been saving her for this hop- I’ve been out of practice coloring with my Copic Markers, except for small images, but she was a fun one to play with!  I actually have 2 cards featuring her to share (since I colored a backup “just in case I mess up” image as well).  Since I knew coloring was going to take a bit of time, I kept the rest of my design pretty simple- stamping my sentiment on a panel die cut with MFT’s Stitched Edge die.  I also just got the new gradient square stencil by Tim Holtz and the angles seemed like a perfect match!

I used a mix of Distress Oxides on the stenciled details, but I’m not even positive of all the colors because I used a dirty ink blending tool. LOL. (note to self- buy more blending foams!)  I knew the Cracked Pistachio would match my die cut panel, but the rest was just trial and error! I figure you really can’t go wrong with a mix of blues & greens- they are my happy colors!  A few pearl details & twine added some subtle embellishments to my simple card.

And here’s one last pic with the two cards together- the other is free of embellishments, but very similar in design!

I hope you enjoyed my card and are getting warmed up a bit for our “Some Like it HOT” blog hop!  We hope you’ll join us and play along with our challenge blog as well this month!  If you’re ready to keep moving, head on over and check out Dawn’s project!

Inky hugs,

Tara

Make Today Beautiful

Hello everyone, Kia here with a card to share with you today. I am using new products from My Favorite Things for this card, and I have linked the products at the end of this post.

I have water coloured for this card today, and I hope that you all might give it a try. You do not need professional water colours to do this, you can use Zig Clean Color Brushes or Tim Holtz Distress Inks for this process. They key is layer, dry, layer, dry, layer – you get my drift.

For my card, I stamped the bloom using Memento ink and embossed with clear embossing powder. I then stamped the “beautiful” sentiment, again using the Memento ink, and went over the ink with Wink of Stella, cut it, then put it aside. I then proceed to paint the flower using my water colour palette, layering the colours and drying in between. Once finished I die cut the Blueprint die and did a wash with the yellow, then splattered with black acrylic paint. I attached the panel to my card base, and stamped the sentiment using the Memento ink again.

To finish, I attached the bloom using foam squares, then glued on the “beautiful” sentiment, then added some Nuvo drops.

I hope you have enjoyed this card today, and would like to thank you for visiting us today at Scrap’n Stamp.
