Tuesday Tutorial: Thinking Outside Your Nesties – Part 1

Hi everyone. This tutorial was put together by Shellie for us last year but I decided that it was time to feature it again because the technique is so much fun. It’s a great way to use your Nestabilities that has a real ‘wow!’ factor and it works with all kinds of shapes – circles, ovals, squares, rectangles, octagons and even the different labels. The key is to choose a stamp that is larger than the size of your Nestie so that it will go ‘hang’ over the edge.

Here is the original tutorial using regular stamps and Part 2 will show you how to use the same technique with our Studio K Digital Stamps.

Thinking Outside Your Nesties:

1. Select a stamp and then coordinate it with a Nestie is slightly smaller so that part of the image will be outside the Nestie shape. I chose  a floral image and inked it with Sage & Pink Petunia VersaMagic  dewdrop ink pads.

I used the direct to stamp technique to ink the different colors on my flower.

The shape of these dewdrop ink pads is perfect for inking small areas.

3. Choose a Nestie that fits the main part of your image allowing part of it to ‘hang out’ of the Nestie.

I used the  Large Standard Circles but you could use other shapes like ovals, octagons or one of the labels sets. Just lay the Nestie over your stamped image and try it out to see if you like it. Try different kinds until you find the one that you think will look the best.

4. Using your craft knife cut around the part of your image that will hang outside of the Nestie. Make sure you cut right against the image where your Nestie will sit.

5. Place your Nestie over your image making sure your cut area is on top of the Nestie.

6. Run your Nestie/image stack through your Big Shot or Cuttlebug.

7. Cut around the rest of the image that was outside your Nestie with scissors or your craft knife.

This is what is will look like when you are done.

To Finish The Card:

1. Emboss a piece of Core’dinations Cardstock using the Diamonds in the Rough CuttleBug Embossing Folder.

Once embossed gently sand the raised image using a sanding block.

2. Create a border for your stamped image using the coordinating size of Petite Scalloped Circle Nestabilities.

Layer the card elements, add a little ribbon and you are done!

Thanks for dropping by. Hope you give this fun technique a try.

Happy crafting!

Tuesday Tutorial – Gift Card Holder

Hi All,  Shellie here with this weeks Tutorial!

With Christmas just around the corner I thought I would share with you the how to’s on this great little gift card holder.

tut0001

______________________________________________________________

tut1

For this project you will need some cardstock (I used Core’Dinations because I love the colours it comes in) cut down to 8.5″ x 4.25″,  A piece of Patterned paper (I used Basic Grey Eskimo Kisses) cut down to 4″x12″, and a few different elements to use for finishing (I used my Spellbinders Nestabilities, Kaiser Craft Pearls, Marths Stewart Border Punches, 3D foam dots, and Acetate to finish my card)

tut2

To Start, Score your 4×12 piece of patterned paper at 4″, 6″ & 8″.  Use your bone folder to crease your paper along your score lines, making sure you fold your paper accordian style as shown in the last picture above.

tut3

Sand the edges of your 8.5″ x 4.25″ cardstock.  Score your cardstock in half and use your bone folder to crease the fold (makes the fold crisper)

Quick Tip – When sanding your Core’Dinations Cardstock place it along the edge of your desk or another hard surface and pull your sanding block over the edges.  This will give you an evenly sanded border and make the process go twice as fast!

tut7

Using your gift card as a guide cut a slit in your pattern paper along the middle (6″) score line.  You will need to center your card on the middle score line and make your slit approximately 1/4″ longer then your card.

tut9

Place adhesive along the ‘outside’ edges of the 2 center panels (adhesive goes where the black lines are in the picture above)  Stick your center together.

tut4

The patterned paper should now look like this, with the center stuck together and the gift card slit in the middle flap.

tut001

Now attach your patterned paper to your card by folding your pattern paper up so you only have 1 of the sides exposed.  Apply adhesive along all of the sides and stick this down to the inside of your card.  You will need to center the piece top & bottom, but line it up tight along the crease.

Next apply adhesive along all of the sides of the currently exposed pattern paper.  To adhere this to your card do not open up the pattern paper instead close your card, this will ensure that your have your pattern paper lined up right and that the card will open and close nicely.

tut6

Your card (with the gift card in it) will now look like this.

tut8

I embellished my card by using my Spellbinders Nestabilities to create a cardstock frame which I backed with a piece of acetate.  I popped this up on my card front and added a few Peggy’s Pretties to finish it off.  I made a 3D christmas tree with my Spellbinders Nested Christmas Trees die and embellished that with LOTS of Kaiser Craft  Rhinestones.

To decorate the inside of my card I used the center of the frame I cut out for my card front, layered it on a piece of Pink cardstock and added an embossed christmas tree.

Behind the gift card I mimiced the above inner card embellishment  so there was somewhere to write!

tut0001

I Hope you have a blast creating thses little card holders!  They are quick and easy, and make that gift card mean so much more!!

Until Next Time, Happy Crafting!
