Tuesday with Tara {take 299} Hello Foliage!

Hello!  Today I’m sharing a card with some simple heat embossing using a sentiment from the Letter It Embossing Kit by Ranger together with a pretty Fern Frame by Picket Fence Studios.

I originally planned on a super simple one-layer card, but after stamping the ferns in Rustic Wilderness Distress Oxide Ink, I decided to add a bit of watercolor with some Media Sticks by Dina Wakley.  My card base wasn’t heavy enough to dry without warping, so I ended up die cutting a layer to mount onto another card.  I can’t tell you how many times my card design changes as I work on it, but it’s almost always for the better 🙂

I chose Metallic Copper WOW Embossing Powder to make the bold sentiment design pop and added some sequins by Picket Fence Studio- this mix is called Moscow Mule and it includes some lovely copper tones!

I decided to add just one more finishing touch, a word from Tim Holtz’s Metallic Sticker Book.  It’s got so many great little pieces in it, I think I’ll be using it a lot!  My only wish is that it came in copper too 😉

Inky hugs,

Tara

Tuesday with Tara {take 297} Yellow Simplicity

There is beauty in simplicity… and joy in the color yellow!  Today I decided to try some abstract watercolor in shades of yellow & green Distress Ink (I started with Squeezed lemonade and Twisted Citron & added a few more for texture & fun).

I have done this technique with florals in the past, but thought it would work great with this lemon stamp by Picket Fence Studios as well!  I first trimmed some water color Cardstock to the size I wanted and used the image as my guide to apply ink directly from the pads to my work surface (looking at the clear stamp upside down helped me with the placement for the yellow & green!).

Next, I misted the ink with water and smooshed the cut piece of Cardstock into it.  I repeated it with a bit more water and a second piece since I planned to make two cards (I had a little mishap with some coffee though, so that one has some extra color to it!).  I set it aside to dry for a while, then stamped using my stamp platform (you could use your Misti or another tool if you have one) to get a nice, dark, black image. Once again, I let it dry before adding a bit more color to a few spots on my lemons & leaves.

I knew I wanted to use a sentiment from Tim Holtz’s Metallic Sticker Book, and after spilling coffee all over my work surface I was definitely ready for some simplicity!  I chose a pre-cut Kraft square card as my base and added some pale yellow corrugated paper as a single layer between them.  I mounted the sticker on a bit of black and with a bit of Sookwang/Be Creative tape it was done.  Just in case the spilled coffee came back to show it’s face, I stacked some ink pads on top of my card for a few hours before I took photos.

Fun fact- while this is not my greatest photography, I had to use my (artificial) lemon tree as my backdrop for this card!  This tree stands beside our yellow front door in the spring & summer months and has fooled several people into sniffing it’s fruit 🙂

Inky hugs,

Tara

Tuesday with Tara {take 256} Mug of Sunshine

Happy Tuesday!  Today I’m bringing you a big ol’ Mug of Sunshine, combining images & words from ‘Hello Sunshine Turnabout‘ by Concord & 9th with ‘I Like Big Ones‘ by Picket Fence Studios and a fab oldie, the ‘Rays‘ stencil by Tim Holtz.

For the card background, I inked the Rays with two shades of Distress Oxide ink, Fossilized Amber & Spiced Marmalade.  I blended them with a broad Life Changing Blender Brush.  I like to work from light to dark, so went from the outer edges of the stencil towards the center.  I heat embossed the ‘Big One’ mug in Letter It Navy Embossing Powder on deep yellow card stock, then blended some ink onto it for some shading.  I stamped the sunshine design in the same Marmalade ink over the image, then added the sentiment in navy ink over them.

I finished off the card base with some crinkle ribbon wrapped around a blue textured panel.  I added a few sequins for a bit of extra shimmer- these are from the Ocean Breeze set by Picket Fence Studios.

I hope my card brings some SUNSHINE to your day!  I know a lot of BC is getting a ton of rain right now… if I could, I’d gladly share some of my heat & southern sunshine with you!

Inky hugs,

Tara
