Let It Snow?

And just like that, it’s Friday again! Hope everyone is doing well, especially if you’ve been affected by the horrible weather events in BC.

I don’t know about you, but I’m just as happy when snow stays away for as long as possible. 😉  But that doesn’t mean I can’t put a little of the white stuff on a card for today’s Random Acts of Cardness challenge prompt, SNOW!

 

 

It’s a bonus when I can manage to make a cute card with just a little bit of sass! That penguin seems made for pitching snowballs, and I suppose it’s one way to get his little reindeer to pull the sled. The background is made with mermaid lagoon distress oxide ink blended on white cardstock, and then splattered with water. A few of my splats are larger than ideal, but oh well. 😀  The snow is made using a fun new product, snowfall distress grit-paste! It’s added to a separate piece of watercolour paper so it wouldn’t pick up any of the oxide colour. My critters, sled and snowballs are all from Lawn Fawn’s Toboggan Together, and the sentiment from Tiny Tag Sayings. The panel and sentiment dies are older My Favorite Things dies from my stash.

Tuesday with Tara {take 320} Blessed to Know You

Happy Tuesday!  I’m working on getting myself mentally prepared for Thanksgiving next weekend (it’s a little bit harder when you live in the south, y’all), so a card celebrating how blessed I am seemed fitting!  Of course, I’m using the ‘blessed’ dies from the Honey Bee “Bitty Buzzwords” set (it’s just so pretty!) and I decided to pair it with an older stamp set by Concord & 9th which is still in stock- Just because.

I started this project digging through some scraps to find something I wanted to die cut my word out of… here I’ve used some orange metallic card stock over a background made from Dina Wakley Media sprays.   Once I started with yellow, I really wanted to find a sunflower image to pair with it… but that’s just going to have to be something that goes on my wish list, I guess!  I noticed the sketchy blossom in this stamp set, however, and decided together with the leaves, branches & splatters that it would be a good fit!   I stamped in Distress Oxide Inks exclusively- Crackling Campfire, Wild Honey, Spiced Marmalade & Vintage Photo.

I added a bit of shimmer to finish off my otherwise simple card.  While I don’t have any of the Mica Sprays, I do still have a good supply of Perfect Pearl Mist (which I’m guessing are like the Mica Sprays without the dye in them) and so I’ve used the color Sunflower here.  If you’ve got the Perfect Pearls powders, you could create your own sprays simply by mixing them with water in a spritzer bottle.   A bit of clear bling finished everything off!

Birthday Sweets!

Happy Monday! Today’s Random Acts of Cardness prompt is SWEETS, and I chose a big stencilled birthday cake!

The Cake Maker stencil from Simon Hurley Create has all kinds of options for creating different styles of cakes, and as long as you keep a few things in mind, it’s fun and easy to use. The main thing to remember is MASKING! The stencil has a lot of different images quite close together, so masking all around the part of the stencil you’re using is important. And you know how I figured that out, lol. Making this particular cake, I also discovered using smaller blending brushes – such as the smaller Picket Fence brushes – helps to keep ink in control.
I started with the candles, using spun sugar and picked raspberry distress inks along with squeezed lemonade and carved pumpkin for the flames, then masked them so I could add the cake base in spun sugar. The stripes are picked raspberry. Next I added the cake stand in Colorbox silver and embossed it with Wow clear sparkle embossing powder. Finally, the white icing was added with Versamark and Wow detail white powder.
I wanted a fun font for the sentiment, so picked this pair from Concord & 9th’s Birdie Talk turnabout set, inked in Versamark + Memento rose bud, and embossed with the same sparkle embossing powder as the cake stand. I die cut my panel with a stitched die and found some bright pink cardstock in my stash for the card base. For the finishing touches, I added some sequins from my stash with Stickles in the centre, and some shimmer to the candle flames.

Phew! I think that took longer to describe than to make! I hope I’ve inspired you to make some paper sweets today!
