Tuesday with Tara {take 246} Tropical Foliage

Tuesday, May 5th, 2020

Happy Tuesday!  It’s Cinco de Mayo (the 5th of May) and we’ve taken the holiday as our inspiration to challenge you to create a TROPICAL card today for our Random Acts of Cardness!  (I considered going with TACOS or MARGARITAS as the theme, but this seemed like something more people could play along with… instead I’ll just have those for dinner tonight!)

My cards feature the fabulous  Toucan Paradise stamp set by Concord & 9th, which I stamped with classic Distress Ink on both mint & white card stock.  I wasn’t sure which I wanted to use for my card, so in the end I made two cards!  I paired my tr=opical foliage with a sentiment from Gina K Design’s Colossal Coneflower stamp set.  It’s got such a pretty script to it, so I inked it up ombre style to match my background.

These sentiments are perfectly shaped to fit in a circle, so I used a stitched circle die to cut it out from white cardstock.  I added a touch of Nuvo glitter drops to the ‘awesome’ and a combination of that and some white Nuvo Crystal Drops to my background, which I also splattered with white paint.  The finishing touch is some crinkle ribbon which I inked up with the same two shades of Distress Ink I stamped in- Peeled Paint & Broken China.  I absolutely love how the green & blue bleed together on the bias tape and dry with so many color variations!

Here’s my simple second card- the same inks & stamps on a white background, which I cut with an edge die and added to a green card which I white embossed the Paper Hug stamp on.  I kept this one super simple, the only extra I added was a few of the white Nuvo Crystal drops.

I hope you have an AWESOME day.  I hope you find time to create a tropical retreat in some small way… even if it’s just eating tacos or drinking a margarita!

Inky hugs,

Tara

Sending Paper Hugs Blog Hop!

Friday, April 3rd, 2020

Welcome to the Scrap ‘N Stamp Paper Hugs Blog Hop!  I’m so excited to send paper hugs your way along with our design team… these projects are soon to be blooming with creativity to bring some cheer to your day!

As usual, we encourage comments on our posts… and will be randomly selecting someone from those comments to win a $50 gc for the SNS online store!   Be sure to read through to the end of this post for links to the rest of the girls cards!  Any orders placed this weekend could get a FREE ‘paper hug’ sentiment stamp like the one I used on my card- just put ‘send me a hug’ in your order comments!  (freebies are while supplies last)

I’m gonna kick things off with this card featuring this gorgeous Colossal Coneflower stamp by Gina K Designs.  This stamp set is really gorgeous, with several leaves, blooms & sentiments to mix and match.  I kept it simple with just one flower on my card, pairing it with the Paper Hug stamp by Picket Fence Studios.

I stamped onto some watercolor paper in a pale grey Archival ink so I wouldn’t have dark lines competing with the vibrant colors I wanted to use.  I took my inspiration from an image of echinacea in this gorgeous mix of fuchsia and orange.  I went in with my Aquarell Watercolour Pencils (if you don’t have any, try starting with a set like this one by Nuvo) and just shaded away until I got a color blend I was happy with.  I love blending it all together with a water brush since it’s so easy to work with.

I finished things off with a bit of shimmer… I splattered some shimmer of Perfect Pearls Sunflower Sparkle.  I used one of the bottles of Perfect Pearls Mist, which I don’t believe they make any more, but I think you can get the same effect mixing some pearls with a bit of water and splattering with a brush.  It adds such a pretty bit of shimmer to this simple card!  I decided to trim down a 5×7 kraft card base to just 3.75″ wide and make a tall & slim card.

I added a the ‘paper hug’ sentiment, which I inked in a purple ink, then penciled over in orange to add an ombre effect.  A gold pen lightly over all of it adds a bit of extra shimmer too!

I can’t wait to share with you what the rest of the team has been creating- hope it brings you warm fuzzies like a real hug, which I know most of us aren’t getting near enough of these days with all the social distancing that is going on 😉  Next up on the hop is Chala– enjoy!  Here’s the full list of links:

Happy Hopping!

Inky hugs,

Tuesday with Tara {take 241} A Simple Birthday

Tuesday, March 31st, 2020

Happy Tuesday!

I realized a bit ago that I don’t have many birthday cards ready to go in my stash.  Then as I set to make this card for the stash, I realized that I don’t have many birthday stamps/dies!  Guess I’ll be looking to add a variety of birthday sentiments in the near future…  I found this sentiment in a ‘vintage’ sentiment set by Lawn Fawn.  It was part of one of their first releases in the early years, but classic sentiments never go out of style!

My goal for this simple birthday card was to make one that was kinda ‘gender neutral’ so I figured an outdoorsy theme was perfect!  I started with the Tree Ring background stamp by Concord & 9th, which I inked up with Distress Oxide.  I combined two shades of brown for a bit of subtle variation, then brushed the lighter color over the image for some shading.  I added a bit of life to the card with a die cut from the Garden Greens set by Tim Holtz.

I originally had a smaller sentiment in mind, but when I decided on this one I chose to add a flower and some bling to balance the design and add texture.  The ink that was left on the brush was just enough to add a bit of shading to the edges of my card!

Inky hugs from afar,

Tara
