Tuesday with Tara {take 143}

Happy Tuesday!

Today I thought I’d share a simple pair of cards with a fabulous sentiment, bold silhouette die cuts and colorful watercolors!

I couldn’t decide between a floral or leafy design… so decided to use both and create two cards for you today.  I wanted to create a fully rainbow (mostly) but the leafy design shape didn’t lend itself well to that.  I ended up using 5 shades of Color Burst behind the tall flower and just three shades behind the leaves.  It’s been a while since I just played with watercolor like this and it took a bit of practice, but thankfully only one piece was set aside for reinvention later 🙂

I started with the lightest color- a puddle of yellow, and worked up & down from there.  The toughest to work with was the purple, it’s a lot darker than I wanted. Still need to get my hands on those lighter sets (the Fresh Florals would be amazing for this!)  This floral is from Sizzix/ Tim Holtz.  Love those floral silhouettes… they are timeless!

These leafy greens are an older Memory Box die… they really seem to match the curves of the script in the sentiment (by Hero Arts) and I love the shades of yellow/green/blue behind them.  While this was not the design in my head when I sat down to create, this is my favorite of the two cards 🙂  Funny how it works out that way sometimes…

I hope today and this week you find beauty in the simple things around you!

Inky hugs,

Tara

Happy Tuesday!

I hope you had a blessed Thanksgiving weekend and found time to relax and enjoy good food, family & friends!  My husband and I took a road trip to see some autumn colors and while we saw a lot of beauty, I think we were a few weeks ahead of all the color changes!  I did see a few bits of ‘ripe persimmon’ type shades on some trees, but they are not quite showing off the full glory of autumn!  I’m not sure what it’s like in your part of the world, but temperatures are still very warm here in the south.  I’m eagerly anticipating the change in temperatures and colors… so today I’ve created a set of simple cards celebrating my favorite season 🙂

I pulled out some shades of Distress Ink that I’m most looking forward to seeing in nature and used them as my palette for these two simple cards featuring the beautiful Lace Leaf Stamp Set by Concord & 9th.  Very little explanation is needed here- I simply stamped on watercolor card stock.  The large leaf with multi-colors was misted with water before stamping to enhance the watercolor feel I was aiming for.

I pulled out my current seasonal fave Honey Gold Nuvo Glitter Drops to add some shimmer to the leaf and the sentiment.  It really plays well with the autumn colors!

The second card was directly stamped without misting with water, I changed ink colors without cleaning my stamp to get a bit more color variety in my simple pattern.

Both cards were embellished simply with ribbon or twine… and a cute metal embellishment added the balance I was missing on the larger card.

Inky hugs,

Tara

Tuesday with Tara {take 116}

Happy Tuesday!  Today’s card is very simple… but it features one of my favorite things, coffee, together with some great images from Concord & 9th.

The coffee spill effect on my central point was created with the splatter/shadow type leaf shape from the set, inked with two colors of Distress Ink and misted with water.  It’s kinda a funky shape thats fun to use behind the sentiment instead of behind the lace leaf that it was designed for!

I used a shimmery silver embossing powder over brown ink and it ended up somewhat translucent over the text and the little heart on the coffee cup.  I decided to play up that shimmer and use silver glitter paper, bling and some brown crinkle ribbon to complete the card.

For a neutral colored card, there’s actually quite a bit of shimmer going on!  The background of my card was simply stamped, repeating the sentiment in a staggered fashion in two different shades of brown Distress Oxide Ink.  I added a few hearts to fill in open spaces and then inked over it all, going darker from the edges in, with Vintage Photo Distress Ink.

We have much to be thankful for… but every day I start with being thankful for coffee 🙂

Inky hugs,

Tara
