Slimline Die Cutting System

Tuesday with Tara {take 324} Evergreen Wish

Happy Tuesday!

I’m back, sharing a fairly simple card today with some big love for evergreens!  I’ve combined stamps & dies by Tim Holtz- Sketch Greenery Stamps & Holiday Greens dies. (The large set I used is not currently in the online store, but the mini holiday greens are in stock!)  They play well together with a tree window from the Picket Fence Studios Slim Line Die Cutting System.  Dylusions fans will notice I’ve also used some stars from an old wooden stamp!

I wanted a somewhat rustic feel, so I chose to cut the window from a Kraft panel and layer an inky background behind it.  I stamped the sentiment over it in a dark brown ink, and it’s really my only regret with this card… I wish I’d embossed it in silver!  I added some stars in the same brown and silver glitter glue to give it a little something extra & tie those elements together.  I especially love how the glitter makes the branch, which I cut from paper I inked up with Distress Inks, look frosty.

Little touches like some blue crinkle ribbon from my stash and a word token finish everything off.   The little details really add a lot to this card, as always!

Inky hugs,

Tara

Cute Critters!

Today’s prompt for the Scrap ‘N Stamp daily challenge is ‘animals’, so I’m here to share some cute critters with you! It’s Deb here today, for the Design Team. I pulled out an older stamp & dies combo from MFT called Beach Bunnies, and combined it with the recent Picket Fence Studios Slimline Die Cutting System.

BEACH BUNNIES PEEK-A-BOO

It was fun to give these bunnies their own personalities and fur colour!

Cute Critters!

The fun part is that you can choose any colour, for any part of this card, to use! I went with blue for my cardstock, for a ‘blue sky’ kind of background.

CARD DETAILS

Create your card base of 7″ x 8 1/2″. Score and fold in half at 3 1/2″, and set aside. Next, use the PFS Slimline Die Cutting  System to die cut the top layer, and each circle.  I like the added touch of the stitching around the circle dies. Next, use the Lawn Fawn Grassy Border die to die cut 2 strips of grass, from a mid-green cardstock.

Stamp the bunnies, birds and heart in Nocturne ink onto white cardstock. Use your favourite markers to colour the images; I used a combination of Copic and Spectrum Noir, from my stash. Now, use the coordinating Beach Bunnies dies & die cut each image. Add some interest to the die cut grass by blending on some Mowed Lawn distress ink, with a blending tool.

Now, add 2 layers of the grass to the bottom of each circle, using glue or double sided tape. Next, add this layer to the card base, using foam tape or squares. Add foam tape or squares to the back of the die cut images, and then place the bunnies inside each circle. Allowing the bunnies to be partially outside of the circles adds more dimension. Finally, add the birds, heart and a few of the Brutus Monroe Acrylic Bubbles to the front.

Cute Critters!

I decided to add  a die cut sentiment to the front. Use your Big Shot with the MFT Sweet Hello die, and the Memory Box bright yellow glitter paper. This glitter paper is very stiff & sturdy, so you don’t have to layer it. Attach it with glue to the card front, and you’re done!

Trees, Trees and More Trees!

Hey creative friend! It’s Deb here, for the Design Team. Do you known what I realized, today? I realized that I have a LOT of stamp sets with trees! Trees, trees, and more trees! I guess that’s why I chose trees for today’s prompt for the Scrap ‘N Stamp challenge. My house is also surrounded by trees – it’s lovely to look at, especially at this time of year. We have evergreen trees, but we also have a lot of deciduous. So when the leaf buds start emerging, it’s a riot of all shades of green!

CATHEDRAL OF TREES

This first card uses an ‘oldie but a goodie’ stamp from Hero Arts, called Cathedral of Trees. I love this perspective of looking up, from the middle of a grove of trees.

Trees, Trees and More Trees!

CARD DETAILS

A trick I like to use when doing an ink blended background is to start with a piece of coloured cardstock, rather than white. Choose the lightest of the colour you’re using – in this case, start with light blue. Next, blend on Distress Oxide inks in (from  outside in) Black Soot, Chipped Sapphire and Faded Jeans. Leave the very middle without ink – so that just the cardstock shows through. This gives you the illusion that the center is ‘glowing’ with light.

Next, set up the blended panel in your stamp positioner, with the Cathedral of Trees stamp. Cover the stamp with Nocturne ink, and press firmly. With these large background stamps, I always find it best to ink & stamp twice, to ensure full coverage.  With the panel still in the positioner, line up the sentiment stamp Darkness Stars from Impression Obsession. Stamp with Versamark ink. Remove the panel, cover the sentiment stamping with gold embossing powder, and heat set.

To add some stars, mix a bit of white gouache or acrylic paint with water. Pick up the paint with a small brush, and splatter onto the panel. I also added some gold stars by dotting a Nuvo Glimmer Pen in Midas Touch randomly onto the panel.

Layer the finished panel onto a piece of Gina K. gold cardstock, and then onto a dark blue card base.

SLIMLINE TREES

This next card doesn’t use any tree stamps – but it does use tree dies! I chose the Picket Fence Studios Slimline Die Cutting System with the 2 tree square dies.

I love the simplicity of this card! The blended blue sky just shines, doesn’t it?

CARD DETAILS

First, use the smaller of the slimline dies to cut 2 pieces from white cardstock. Put one aside – this will be for the background. Place the 2nd one back onto your Big Shot cutting plate, and place the 2 square tree dies at either end, and cut. To colour the birch trees, lightly blend on Vintage Photo distress oxide, and then add the black with a fine marker. Colour the evergreen trees with Mowed Lawn distress oxide, and a blending tool. Now, stamp the sentiment from the Poppystamps Diamond Sentiments in the middle, with Nocturne ink.

Place the die cut layer over top of the uncut piece, and lightly trace out the square openings with a pencil. Next, use a blending tool and apply Broken China distress oxide. Layer the 2 panels together with foam tape or squares. Decorate the front by wrapping some linen thread around the front, tying off with a small bow. Add a few coloured rhinestones, and then attach the card front to a green card base.
