Puppy Love: SNS February 2021 Blog Hop

Hi!  We are so glad you’ve joined us for our February “Puppy Love” blog hop!  Today’s cards are sure to make you smile and hopefully bring some warm fuzzies your way!

We hope you enjoy the fun twist we’re giving our valentines this year and that you’re inspired to play along with us!  We love hearing what you think about our projects, so please leave us some comments along the way.  You never know,  yours might win you a $50 gift certificate to spend at the SNS online store!

Once again, I get the fun of kicking things off here with my card!  I kept on the trend I started with my last card, working with shades of PINK Distress Ink (can’t wait to add Kitsch Flamingo into the mix!), this time using them to watercolor on some Distress Mixed Media Heavystock.

I’ve used some older Tim Holtz stamps that I know are faves of a lot of people, the crazy dogs!  My card features images from the mini cats & dogs stamp set and the Happy Valentine’s Day sentiment from the Crazy Talk stamps.  The hearts & chocolate box are from the mini bird crazy & things set (it’s not in stock, but here’s the larger version if you want to pair it with the original sized stamps).

I started with two half sheets of heavystock.  On one, I did some ink blending & smooshing with a variety of pinks, layering the colors for some fun texture.  On the second I stamped a few dog images in Archival Black Ink, and painted around them with the same mixture of colors, picking up ink that was left on my work surface.  I then die cut a variety of  sizes of hexagon tiles out from both of the papers.

Once cut, I added some details with smaller stamps, some tone-on-tone & some black to mix things up.  A Nuvo Aqua Shimmer Pen was a fun touch to add shimmer to the details.  As a bonus, it also made for some really pretty smooshes for a marbled look on some of my tiles when I ‘mopped’ it up off my work surface!  A few touches of Honey Gold Glitter Drops also added a fun touch.

For finishing touches, I used foam squares under the sentiment and the box of chocolates.  I also added some tiny paper flowers & bits of bling for a bit of texture.  I kept debating whether I should color in the dog images, but in the end I’m quite pleased with the monochromatic look this card has, keeping the images black & white (or cream, in this case).  I hope you like it too!  I’ve got a few extra tiles cut out that I’m hoping to work into another card to share with you soon!

Stamps, Stencils & Dies- Oh My! BLOG HOP

Welcome to our May 2020 Blog Hop!   This month the team is show-casing some great sets by Wendy Vecchi which include coordinating stamps, stencils & dies.  The sets will be 20% off in the SNS online store until May 7.  You can see all the current specials, including this one right HERE.

I am using the “A Million Thanks” set, and since I’ve shared cards with it before (see them HERE) I decided to challenge myself and use parts that I hadn’t worked with on my other cards.  This meant working with the butterfly stamp & die, a sentiment I hadn’t used yet.  I also challenged myself to use the background stencil pattern.  I had a good sized scrap of water color paper which I had inked up doing some clean up on my work space (I’ve been using Wendy’s Make Art STAY-tion and it’s pretty great!) and I decided to work with that.  I inked up the stencil with some Wilted Violet Distress Oxide and since it’s small, I repeated it to cover the strip.

I decided since I was working with small images, I should go add some texture to keep it interesting.  I stamped the sentiment on a piece of canvas  I had and set it aside to dry for a while before I trimmed it down and frayed the edges.  The butterfly was also stamped on water color paper in Distress Oxide Ink, then blended with a water brush.  After I had all my pieces, I tried several layouts before I settled on this one, which allowed me to add more texture with some fringed ribbon and twine.

And that’s it!  It’s a pretty fun set with some neat elements, I think you’ll see them used somewhere else along the blog hop… but you can also look at my previous post to see what else this set includes!  You can see all sets, which are on sale until May 7, right HERE!  I know I have a  few on my wish list, I’m sure you will too!

MFT Floral Blooms

Hello Crafty friends, Nancy F here today to share on the Scrap’n Stamp blog. I decided to do something a little different, yet still playing along with the monthly challenge. I am doing an all mixed media style card, from used books pages to gel pressing. So grab your favorite beverage and sit back and enjoy it.

I started by stamping out these beautiful Flowers in bloom set from My Favorite things on to the pages of the book using my stamping tool and Versa Clair nocturn ink .  Then I heat set with clear embossing powder to help the image stand out from the writing, then repeated this process four times. 

I also had too many ideas flowing through my head by this point, from art journaling layouts to more cards. So stay tuned for more projects.

Now that all the stamping and embossing was completed it was time for the fun messy part, getting in with the paints and gesso. This is always my favorite part. 

To bring the focus more to the flowers I decided to add Dina Wakley media white gesso to the book pages, carefully going around the flowers. This really helped to mute the print down some and allow the flowers to pop. I decided to actually add some gel medium to the petals of the flowers, I felt this would seal the paper and allow me to wipe any mistakes away easily.

 I created three styles of cards with three versions of the painting. 

For the above, I would add my paint in and then wipe it away allowing it to stain the paper and give it a night tinted look. Once I was happy with how it looked I decided to distress the edges of the paper, using distress oxides and regular inks.

The cards themselves were larger than normal, cards measured 5 ½ X 7 ¾. I used some of my previously created gel backgrounds and really did not want to trim much off of them, thus keeping as much of the detail as possible. I chose the background to match or enhance the flowers.

  Each gel pressed backgrounds were added to the card flat using a liquid adhesive. For a little dimension popped up the painted flowers using some foam tape. To complete the card I used a simple hello die and layered a few of them together to create dimension also adding a mirror layer to the mix.
