Fast & Easy Card!

Hello!! Laurie here to share a very fast and easy card that still packs a punch! If you’ve ever needed a card ASAP, this technique is for you!

I started by stamping the Big Butterfly stamp from Taylored Expressions. This is a big, bold line art stamp that lends itself to numerous techniques. But like I said, this is going to be quick! I used Memento Tuxedo Black Ink for the stamping but I regret that decision…I’ll show you why later.

After stamping, I took three different sizes of heart dies and cut out portions of the butterfly. My initial plan was to colour these positive hearts with my alcohol markers. But that would’ve taken too much time, haha!

I used a light pink ink along with a Picket Fence Blending Brush to apply ink to each die cut heart. I mounted the butterfly panel onto black cardstock to make it pop off the white card base.

To make the hearts pop up I used craft foam for a nice solid base. Now, this is where the mistake of using the Memento Ink came in to play. Because it is not a waterproof ink, it started to bleed when I added the shimmer pen. I tried to be careful but in the end, some of the lines were blurred.

I added a generous amount of Nuvo Crystal Glaze to each heart and stamped a “thank you” greeting from the From the Heart stamp set from MFT.

This card is definitely more impactful in real life. But if you’re looking for a quick and easy creation, this is it! Thank you for dropping by!

Happy Tuesday!

I’ve got a simple card for you today, with a mix of die cuts & heat embossing on a book print background. I began by playing around with the text in the ‘You’re in my Prayers’ stamp set by Taylored Expressions- this one has the large ‘prayers’ word with a variety of other pieces to fit with it. The bold lettering is perfect for heat embossing or ink techniques, but I decided to keep it simple and bold in black on teal cardstock.

I selected a variety of shapes from Tim Holtz’s Funky Florals #3 to die cut from the same cardstock, choosing a variety of pieces. These are designed to be stacked and layered, but I chose to use just the bold bottom layers and place them on a some book print which I die cut from Tim’s Stacked Deckle die. I played around with placement until I was satisfied with the balance of it, then snapped a photo before placing the pieces on adhesive dots for easy gluing. I was then able to refer back to my photo to get them in the best spots.

And that’s it- simple, but bold & bright. I always feel that simple is best for cards like this, that could be used as a sympathy card. I hope you like it and maybe it gives you a new way to look at some of your die sets and how they could be used as background images!

Today I’m sharing two cards with you- first up is my Busy Beaver Card:

I created a background using some book print paper coated with white gesso, I then used a heart stencil (this one is by Dina Wakley) and some Distress Paint in two shades of red, Barn Door & Festive Berries, to create part of my ‘Canadian flag’ background. I like combining two shades of paint for some subtle variety and texture. I used the 1″ Alphanumeric Dies by Tim Holtz & Sizzix to cut CANADA out of my background as well, I love how easy it is when there are multiples of each letter to work with! The rest of the card is from the Busy Beaver stamp set- I stamped on watercolor paper and used watercolor pencils to color this cutie up. The maple leaf die is from a sweet little tag that is a gift with purchase while supplies last! Love it!

Here’s a closer look at the stamp set- it comes with some sweet sentiments 🙂 This adorable Busy Beaver Stamp & Die set was created by Raya’s request to help us celebrate Canada’s big 150th Birthday!

My second card uses the same background as the first, but instead of the beaver I added the same ‘kind is classy‘ sentiment I featured on my card last Tuesday. I also use that cute little maple leaf tag! This sentiment seemed perfect for my Canadian card, since kind is definitely a word that describes most Canadians I know!
