Fun With Oxides

Hi Everyone! It’s Susan here with the last Random Acts of Cardness word prompt and today’s word is Oxides. I have two cards to share with you today using the same supplies for both but each have a slightly different look.

One of my favorite backgrounds to make is made using Oxides and ink blending tools. I used sponge daubers for the little circles and Tim Holtz Mini Ink Blending Tool for the larger circles. I simply load up the applicator with ink and press it into the paper. The daubers give a more solid coverage where the mini ink blending tool gives coverage that is a little hazy looking around the edges.

For my second card I used the same 6 ink colors but this time I pressed the ink pad onto my glass mat, spritz the ink with some water then pressed the paper into the ink in a few spots around the paper. Because I’m using some water with this technique I used a heavier weight card stock meant for water.

Once I applied one color, I dried it with my heat gun then repeated the process with the next color. With each new ink color that I add I make sure to press an un-inked portion of the paper into the watered down ink as well as a portion of the already inked area. I grab my heat gun and dry the card stock again. This step is really important. Drying between each color application allows the colors to layer on top of each other without everything turning to a color that resembles mud.

I added the same 6 colors as in the first card (I’ve linked to them below), drying in between each one then I repeated a couple of the colors to build up some more layers. The hardest thing about this technique is knowing when to stop.

The way the colors layer on top of each other is my favorite thing about playing with Oxides. It’s like magic. Each time I do it I get a completely different look.

I finished both cards off by adhering the inked panel to a white card base with craft foam then added a simple white embossed sentiment on black card stock.

Happy Stampin’
and thanks SO MUCH for visiting!
Stay safe Everyone!!
