Stay Sweet, My Friend!

Happy Saturday, my friend! I hope you’re enjoying your weekend – and maybe having a popsicle or two?! It’s Deb here today for the Scrap ‘N Stamp Design Team. We recently had our July Blog Hop, where I used the Concord & 9th Cool Treats Turnabout stamp set. So, I thought I would share another card using the same set, but with a different look.

STAY SWEET!

For today’s card, I didn’t use the Turnabout portion of the stamp set. Instead I focused on the large popsicle die cut shape, and create a shaker card!

Stay Sweet, My Friend!

How fun is this?! Whenever I have a popsicle, it always starts melting as I’m eating it. So – I incorporated that into the design.

CARD DETAILS

First start by die cutting the popsicle from coloured cardstock, using the coordinating Cool Treats dies, and your die cutting machine. I placed mine on an angle. Next, cut two panels the same size as the front popsicle panel – one from acetate, and one from white cardstock.

Attach the acetate to the back of the die cut panel, holding it firmly in place using a double sided tape. Next, cut strips of coloured cardstock that you want to use for creating your multi-coloured popsicle. Attach these on an angle to match the angle of the die cut popsicle; use liquid glue or double sided tape. Trim off any excess from the edges.

Now, with the acetate side up, attach foam tape around edges of the panel, and more foam tape following the outline of the popsicle. The tape outlining the shape of the popsice is the barrier that will hold in the sequins. Before removing the tape backing, add your sequins into the ‘well’ created by the foam tape. Now you can remove the backing from the foam tape from the entire panel, and place your now striped cardstock panel on top – with the stripes facing inward.  Turn over your panels, and have fun shaking the sequins! C’mon – you know you want to – it’s fun! Just think of it as ‘quality control’! *wink*

Use the sprinkles image stamp from the Cool Treats stamp set in either Versamark or the same colour ink as your cardstock panel. Stamp the sprinkles randomly about the front of the panel.

To create the ‘melting/dripping’ look, I added Nuvo Crystal Glaze around the outline of the the popsicle, and added some drips on the top and bottom. Set this aside to dry!

MORE DETAILS

While you’re waiting for your Glaze to dry, you can work on the popsicle stick, and the sentiment.  Place a strip of Vellum in your stamping platform, and line up the two words ‘stay’ and ‘sweet’ on the vellum. Close the platform lid to pick up the stamps, and use your Powder Tool to de-static the vellum. Stamp the sentiment in Versamark ink, cover it with white embossing powder, and set with a heat tool.

To create the popsicle stick, cut a strip of brown cardstock to length, and round the bottom edges. Blend on some Vintage Photo Distress Oxide ink to give it some depth.

Once you’re sure that your Glaze ‘drips’ are dry, attach the popsicle stick with liquid glue to the bottom of the popsicle. Attach the sentiment across the middle of the popsicle, adding your liquid glue behind the letters, where it won’t be seen.  Attach your shaker panel to a bright yellow card base, and finish off the card front by adding a few clear droplets. Be sure to add some more Nuvo Crystal Glaze ‘drips’ to your popsicle stick!
