Smile Eclipse

Happy Thursday everyone! I hope you are enjoying your summer so far. Here in Calgary we’ve been awfully wet and a little cooler than average. In fact, there have been a few times I’ve been tempted to turn on the heat this month! I’m not begging for steaming hot days, but days that heat up enough so that we don’t require the furnace would be great! Let’s hope that the cold weather is behind us for a few months now.

I created this card, hoping to use a more clean and simple style with the eclipse technique. I stamped the colour drops using the MFT Color Drops stamp set in a rainbow of colour using my stamp positioning tool so that they all lined up the way I wanted them to.

I used some low tack tape (I like 3M cellulose tape) to attach the MFT Smile die to the front of the panel I had stamped and trimmed down before I ran it through my Big Shot.

I put the letters aside and mounted the front panel on to a dark blue panel cut 1/8″ larger on the two sides to create the 1/16″ border that I love. You can see the dark blue card behind the cut out letters.

I then cut the letters out of white craft foam and attached the letters to foam. For something like this, I find it easier to this than it is to use foam tape.

To finish off the card, I stamped the “You’re Awesome” sentiment from the MFT All Smiles stamp set in Nocturne VersaFine Clair ink and attached this panel to the front of a white card. I then used liquid glue to attach the foam letters in to the holes where they had been cut out of originally. The foam makes the letters stand up from the card to create the Eclipse look.

I have seen this technique done with a lot of different stamps… I like that I was able to keep it somewhat clean and simple.
