Gnome for the Holidays Blog Hop

Happy Blog Hop Day friends!  We’ve got a fun theme for you on this October evening… Gnome for the Holidays!  Each of us on the Scrap ‘N Stamp Design Team will be sharing fun holiday projects with you today featuring gnomes.  As always, you can leave comments at each stop along the way for a chance to win a $50 gift certificate to spending the SNS Online Store!  It should be a lot of fun!

My card today features the fun Gnome Child set from Crafters Companion.  It includes stamps, dies and a coordinating stencil for adding details to the gnome image!  I paired my gnome with a background featuring the new Scribbly Snowflakes dies by Tim Holtz.  I was on the fence about getting these dies, but they really are a perfect whimsical combination with my gnome, and I’m sure I’ll find more fun things to mix them with!

I started with a pre-inked background I had made when I got the new Prize Ribbon Distress Bundle.  I made up several backgrounds using the Distress Spray Stains and shared one of my cards on this post.  (Side note- the next new color is being released NEXT WEEK!  Any guesses on what it might be?) Anyways, I simply arranged some of the snowflake dies over my background and die cut using the detail cutting plates.  I needed a little extra oomph since this background is on watercolor paper.

I had a little lightbulb moment looking at the stencil… what if I used a fun glitter texture paste through the stencil instead of just ink?  I dusted off my Copic Markers to quickly color this guy (I’m REALLY out of practice with them, so I colored several until I was happy with my blends) and grabbed some sparkly paste & a palette knife. Unfortunately, my paste has dried up and turned to gel on me so I had to find another option.  Since my image is pretty tiny, I decided to try some White Blizzard Nuvo Glitter Drops.  I squeezed a small amount under the broadest part of the hat portion and swiped up, then repeated the process going down and IT WORKED!  I’m in love with the sparkly stripes on his outfit- it’s just so stinking cute!

I added about a hundred 3D foam squares behind my background layer (I’m not even joking. LOL) & finished off my card with a few fun touches… I wrapped purple twine around the card and hung a small hand cut tag with one of the sentiments from the stamp set “Jingle Gnomes” and layered one of the die cut snowflakes, glitzed up with some of the same Nuvo Glitter Drops I used on his outfit.  I also added some bling to the white card base under some of my die cut snowflakes.

Are you ready for some more inspiration?  Next up on the hop is Deborah, and I know she’s got something fabulous to share with you!  Happy hopping and have an amazing weekend!

Inky hugs,
Tara

  1. Fantastic background, love the adorable little gnome and the added glitter is spectacular! The great combination of colour reminds me of winter, I can actually feel the chill of wintry winds, brrr! Thank you for sharing your beautiful work!

  2. Eeek, I love the gnomies with their eyes covered… so stinkin cute! The blueprint combo is gorgeous. I’m so partial to blue and this is so vibrant.. now add the sparkle. Swoon! I’m thinkin… the new color might be in a black grey hue family, ya know spooky October and the best printing colors are blue and black. Love this sweet card! Happy Halloween !
