Tuesday Tutorial – Time to Pull out the Punches!

It’s once again time for Tuesday Tutorial here at Scrap ‘n Stamp with Spike. Today it’s all about punches, border punches to be exact! These punches are just great for adding accents to the edges of cards and layouts.
Here’s a few different ways that you can use these punches to add some “punch” to your cards!

Embellishing Corners
Rather than use your corner rounder, grab your border punch!

First flip your punch over

With this punch, the Fiskars Sunburst punch (which is my absolute fave!) there are 3 “scallop” like areas. Use the middle scallop and place a paper corner in the middle of that scallop. Be careful not to push it in too far, keep the areas of the 2 side scallops free. (You can tell where the piece of cardstock is by the holes that are covered in the picture below.) Don’t worry, it takes practice to maneuver it where you exactly want it.

Here’s what you’ll get:

Decorative strips

First cut a strip of cardstock 1.5 inches wide, it can be as long as you need. Place the strip of paper in your punch and align it with the lines on the right side. Notice where I have the edge of the strip, it’s 4.5 squares away from the edge of the punch.

Then punch it!

Now rather than continue down the one side, I find that if I punch the other side next it helps me align the top and bottom scallops to keep them in sync. So flip the piece over. Now remember I had it aligned 4.5 squares from the edge on the right? Now align it 4.5 squares from the edge on the LEFT.

After that, line up the scallops with the painted guides on the punch to continue the pattern along the strip on both sides.

And you end up with a strip that’s on the left! With the strip on the right, I started with a 1 1/4″ wide strip.

What do you think? Add a ribbon, some rhinestones, pearls or Peggy’s Pretties!

With this card I so love using the Wisteria papers from Basic Grey! Now on the corners of the patterned paper, I used the Fiskars Sunburst Border Punch as well as on the purple decorative strip. To accent them, denim Kaiser Pearls were used. On the lavender piece of Core’dinations cardstock, I used Fiskars Threading Water Border Punch to do the corners. The butterfly was cut and embossed on Wisteria Basic Grey Paper with the Butterflies, Cuttlebug Cut and Emboss set.

You may want to keep your eyes peeled on the border punch section, we’ll be getting those New Slim Line EK punches real soon!

Now it’s your turn! We’d love to see what interesting ideas you come up with.

Happy crafting!

Love,
