Scrap ‘n Stamp January 2012 Sketch Challenge

February 4/12 : And the winner is…

First I would like to thank everyone that participated in the January Sketch Challenge. It was great to see all of your cards! I had my hubby Ken do a random draw from all the entries (you got one for each card you entered and one for each product that you used that you bought from Scrap ‘n Stamp) and the winner of the January 2012 Sketch Challenge draw is…..Joanne Meyles.

Congratulations Joanne! Your $10.00 Scrap ‘n Stamp Gift Certificate will be emailed to you today.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hi everyone! I’m back again with another Sketch Challenge and want to let you know that we have changed some of the guidelines for participating and added more ways that you can submit your projects and be entered into the Prize Draw so please make sure that you read the details at the bottom of this post. We wanted to make it easy for everyone to participate and know that some of you were hesitant about uploading pictures to the gallery so now you have other options.
The whole point of our Sketch Challenge is to get you inspired and playing with your supplies. One of our customers said that she is going to use each month’s sketch to create a Christmas card or two so that she has a stockpile for next year. Another idea that we heard was to make a card a month to give away as a gift set. However you choose to use the sketch I hope you have fun and play, play, play!
So…here’s the first sketch of the year.
Here is Kim’s card…
I love how she split the stamped image and used that instead of the circle on the sketch.
If you click on the picture to enlarge it you can see more of the little details that make her card pop like the addition of some Studio K Blue Bell transparent glitter in the center of the flowers. Kim also inked around each white square with Tim Holtz Broken China ink to soften the look and pull all the colors together. The stamped image was colored using Watercolor Pencils that were blended and then highlighted with a Sakura Stardust pen – very cool – gives a nice little bit of sparkle.
Here’s my card. It is a more literal interpretation of the sketch and I watercolored the stamped image as well but used Memento Markers instead of watercolor pencils.
Same sketch but two totally different looks!
Now it’s your turn. What can you create with this sketch? I can’t wait to see.
And here are your cards…
Linda McLean submitted this birthday card that she made using Peel Off stickers colored with Letraset Promarkers to create all the images.
Here are all the products from Scrap ‘n Stamp that she used:
100 lb white cardstock (card base)
Bazzill Simply Smooth Cardstock (for coloring images and to create the background paper)
Peel Off Outline Stickers – Funky Cakes – Black
Studio K Shimmer Cardstock – Deep Blue
Joanne Meyles sent us to cards that she made using the sketch and her own photographs.
Here are all the products from Scrap ‘n Stamp that Joanne used:
Peel Off stickers – Thank You
Peel Off stickers – Borders
Studio K Linen Texture Cardstock
We received this January Sketch Challenge card from Tarah Demerchant – perfect for Valentine’s Day:
Regena sent in this love themed card:
Shelley Dureau sent a picture of three cards that she made using the sketch challenge that she will be donating to a special cause – Send A Smile 4 Kids (Canada). Here is what Shelley wrote to me…
“I created these 3 Valentine’s Day cards which I will be donating to Send A Smile 4 Kids (Canada). SAS4K is a project that I am involved in where crafters make greeting cards (holidays, birthday, congratulations, thank you) that can be given to children hospitalized at BC Childrens Hospital as well as several other Canadian & US Childrens hospitals. I created the cards by cutting out and layering Spellbinder die cuts. The centre of each grouping is clipart with a dab of Glossy Accents on the hearts.”
What a fantastic way to share your creativity with others. I think I just figured out what to do with some of my extra cards 🙂 Kate
Shelley used Spellbinders Ironwork Accents & Ranger Glossy Accents that she got from Scrap ‘n Stamp.
NEW 2012 Sketch Challenge Guidelines…
Our Monthly Sketch Challenge is here to encourage and inspire you to use the products that you buy from Scrap ‘n Stamp. Sketch Challenges are a great way to try a new layout on your cards or perhaps incorporate design elements that you haven’t used before. We hope that they will get you thinking outside the box and trying new things. The first Thursday of every month we will post a new sketch and one or two sample cards that we have made to show you how we used it. Then it’s your turn to see what you can create!
And…if you want to share we would love to see your cards & projects and include them in our monthly post. It’s so much fun to see all the different ways the sketch can be used and then when you need ideas all you have to do is click on one of the Sketch Challenge posts and there will be lots of inspiration there for you.
As a little bonus we will be giving away a $10 Scrap ‘n Stamp Gift Certificate each month to one lucky participant that is selected from everyone that submits a picture or project showing how they used the sketch.
Here’s how you can participate:
Create a card or other paper crafted project using the sketch as your inspiration. You can use the sketch in any way you want. Feel free to flip, rotate, change or replace the shapes in any way you want but the general layout of your finished project needs to be recognizable as the sketch.
To be entered into the monthly draw you must meet the following requirements:
  • You must be registered at Scrap ‘n Stamp and have signed up to receive our email newsletter. If you are not registered yet you can do it here>> or local customers can do it at our retail store.
  • You don’t have to use any products that you have purchased from us but we love it when you do and you will receive a bonus entry for every product that you use on your project that you have bought at Scrap ‘n Stamp.
So, without further ado I would like to present to you the November 2011 Sketch Challenge…
Scrap 'n Stamp November 2011 Sketch Challenge
And now, here are a few samples we made to share with you…
I stayed pretty close to the sketch when I made this card with papers from the After Five Paper Kit. These gorgeous papers were perfect for the monochromatic scheme that I was trying to achieve.
Kim (our newest Design Team member) used Bo Bunny papers as her inspiration and varied the shape of the center element for a totally different look.
And I changed things up again on this card and used a Poinsettia made with the Spellbinders Poinsettia Dies (S5-055) to create the focal element for this card and offset it for yet another take on the sketch.
So, as you can see there are lots of ways to interpret this sketch and it would suit many different styles and occasions.
Okay, now it’s your turn to show us your stuff. Have fun! We can’t wait to see what you create.
Just a few things to keep in mind as you play…
How to Upload Pictures to the Scrap ‘n Stamp Sketch Challenge Gallery
Step 1: Register on the Gallery
IMPORTANT: In order to be able to upload pictures to the Sketch Challenge Gallery you MUST register there first. This is completely separate from your store login and will allow you to create a Username that others will see attached to your pictures.
NOTE: You can click on any of the pictures to make them a little bigger and easier to read.
______________________________________
You will be required to enter a Username, Password and email address to complete your registration and if you want to you can add some optional personal information like your Location, Interests, Website address if you have one and a little bit about yourself.
As soon as you click on that link and confirm your registration you can start uploading pics to the Sketch Challenge Gallery.
You will be asked to enter your Username and password everytime you want to upload pics and must be logged in to add comments and reviews.
Step 2: Uploading Pictures to the Sketch Challenge Gallery
IMPORTANT: The file size of the pictures that you upload should be no larger than 1024 kb and they should also be saved as a .jpg
Login to the Gallery with your Username and Password and click on ‘Upload file’
The next screen that comes up is where you indicate which file (picture) you want to upload. Use the first section where it says File Uploads: and click on the Browse button. This will open up to the files that are stored on your computer. Simply find the picture that you want to upload, highlight it and then select Open. Now you will see the file name for the picture you want to upload in the space beside the Browse button. You can upload up to 5 pictures at once. When you have added all the files that you want to upload click on the CONTINUE button at the bottom of the window.
The next window that comes up will contain a message that your file upload was successful. Click CONTINUE. If for some reason you get an error message you should check that your file doesn’t exceed the maximum file size (1024 kb) and that you are using the correct file format (.jpg). If you have checked both of those and they are correct please don’t hesitate to contact us by email for further assistance.
You are almost done! The next step is to put your picture(s) into the correct Sketch Challenge Gallery. Use the drop-down menu indicated in the picture below to select the Sketch Gallery for the month that you are participating. YOU MUST add your name or username in the File Title area (so that we can enter you in the draw and know who to contact if you win the prize draw) and then use the File Description area to put any additional information about your project (like the products you used) and/or a link to your project on your Blog or website. Listing the products from Scrap ‘n Stamp that you used and providing a link to your project will get you additional entries into the monthly draw. Click CONTINUE and you will get a confirmation message that your picture(s) have been uploaded to the Gallery. When you click on CONTINUE again it will take you to the Gallery homepage and you will be able to see your picture in the Sketch Challenge Gallery that you uploaded it to.
If you are brand new to this I know it can all seem a little complicated but once you have done it a couple of times you will find that it is really easy – just like sending an email. I promise! And…if you need help along the way you can always contact us by phone or email and we will be happy to help you.
We hope you give it a try and have fun playing along with our Monthly Sketch Challenges.
