Sketch Challenge

Tuesday with Tara {take 32 & a chance to WIN}

Happy Tuesday!  It’s been a bit of a challenge for me getting this post together this week, but I’m happy to say HOORAY if you are reading this and it is actually still Tuesday 🙂  Valentine’s Day is right around the corner so I have one more Valentine to share with you this week… plus a chance for you to win one of the fabulous Dylusions Heart Stencils that I used on my project!  I think that’s worth another HOORAY!

I had two new things I wanted to create with this week… the Dylusions heart stencil and Candied Apple Distress Ink that I finally got my hands on, just in time for Valentine’s Day, right!?  I started out just grabbing a tag and an ink applicator tool and getting some red ink on the tag.  I couldn’t wait to see what this new Distress Ink would look like and I was not disappointed, it’s yummy!  I inked a background text stamp in the same ink and stamped it over my entire tag.  Next, I got curious what would happen if I mixed some Media sterling silver paint in with some translucent 3D gloss gel… so I did a little blending of them on my craft sheet and swiped the combination through my heart stencil onto the tag.  I sprinkled a few micro beads onto the wet paste and set it aside to dry.   It turned out much like I hoped it would, looking very cool!  The paste picked up a bit of the red color from my background, giving it a slightly pink undertone.  I mixed up more than I needed, so tried out my mixture on a black tag as well… the silver really stands out here, and I only used a tiny bit in the mix!

valentine2016 (3) The rest of my tag isn’t all that complicated… I stamped out a ticket and playing card from some Tim Holtz stamps and coloured them very simply with Vintage Photo Distress Ink & Festive Berries Distress Marker.  Once they were trimmed, I arranged them together with some die cut hearts, a flower & some bling.  Seasonal Chit Chat stickers & some ribbon finish the tag!  Hope you like it!

Scrap ‘n Stamp January 2012 Sketch Challenge

February 4/12 : And the winner is…

First I would like to thank everyone that participated in the January Sketch Challenge. It was great to see all of your cards! I had my hubby Ken do a random draw from all the entries (you got one for each card you entered and one for each product that you used that you bought from Scrap ‘n Stamp) and the winner of the January 2012 Sketch Challenge draw is…..Joanne Meyles.

Congratulations Joanne! Your $10.00 Scrap ‘n Stamp Gift Certificate will be emailed to you today.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hi everyone! I’m back again with another Sketch Challenge and want to let you know that we have changed some of the guidelines for participating and added more ways that you can submit your projects and be entered into the Prize Draw so please make sure that you read the details at the bottom of this post. We wanted to make it easy for everyone to participate and know that some of you were hesitant about uploading pictures to the gallery so now you have other options.
The whole point of our Sketch Challenge is to get you inspired and playing with your supplies. One of our customers said that she is going to use each month’s sketch to create a Christmas card or two so that she has a stockpile for next year. Another idea that we heard was to make a card a month to give away as a gift set. However you choose to use the sketch I hope you have fun and play, play, play!
So…here’s the first sketch of the year.
Here is Kim’s card…
I love how she split the stamped image and used that instead of the circle on the sketch.
If you click on the picture to enlarge it you can see more of the little details that make her card pop like the addition of some Studio K Blue Bell transparent glitter in the center of the flowers. Kim also inked around each white square with Tim Holtz Broken China ink to soften the look and pull all the colors together. The stamped image was colored using Watercolor Pencils that were blended and then highlighted with a Sakura Stardust pen – very cool – gives a nice little bit of sparkle.
Here’s my card. It is a more literal interpretation of the sketch and I watercolored the stamped image as well but used Memento Markers instead of watercolor pencils.
Same sketch but two totally different looks!
Now it’s your turn. What can you create with this sketch? I can’t wait to see.
And here are your cards…
Linda McLean submitted this birthday card that she made using Peel Off stickers colored with Letraset Promarkers to create all the images.
Here are all the products from Scrap ‘n Stamp that she used:
We received this January Sketch Challenge card from Tarah Demerchant – perfect for Valentine’s Day:
Regena sent in this love themed card:
Shelley Dureau sent a picture of three cards that she made using the sketch challenge that she will be donating to a special cause – Send A Smile 4 Kids (Canada). Here is what Shelley wrote to me…
“I created these 3 Valentine’s Day cards which I will be donating to Send A Smile 4 Kids (Canada). SAS4K is a project that I am involved in where crafters make greeting cards (holidays, birthday, congratulations, thank you) that can be given to children hospitalized at BC Childrens Hospital as well as several other Canadian & US Childrens hospitals. I created the cards by cutting out and layering Spellbinder die cuts. The centre of each grouping is clipart with a dab of Glossy Accents on the hearts.”
What a fantastic way to share your creativity with others. I think I just figured out what to do with some of my extra cards 🙂 Kate
Shelley used Spellbinders Ironwork Accents & Ranger Glossy Accents that she got from Scrap ‘n Stamp.
NEW 2012 Sketch Challenge Guidelines…
Our Monthly Sketch Challenge is here to encourage and inspire you to use the products that you buy from Scrap ‘n Stamp. Sketch Challenges are a great way to try a new layout on your cards or perhaps incorporate design elements that you haven’t used before. We hope that they will get you thinking outside the box and trying new things. The first Thursday of every month we will post a new sketch and one or two sample cards that we have made to show you how we used it. Then it’s your turn to see what you can create!
And…if you want to share we would love to see your cards & projects and include them in our monthly post. It’s so much fun to see all the different ways the sketch can be used and then when you need ideas all you have to do is click on one of the Sketch Challenge posts and there will be lots of inspiration there for you.
As a little bonus we will be giving away a $10 Scrap ‘n Stamp Gift Certificate each month to one lucky participant that is selected from everyone that submits a picture or project showing how they used the sketch.
Here’s how you can participate:
Create a card or other paper crafted project using the sketch as your inspiration. You can use the sketch in any way you want. Feel free to flip, rotate, change or replace the shapes in any way you want but the general layout of your finished project needs to be recognizable as the sketch.
To be entered into the monthly draw you must meet the following requirements:
  • You must be registered at Scrap ‘n Stamp and have signed up to receive our email newsletter. If you are not registered yet you can do it here>> or local customers can do it at our retail store.
  • You don’t have to use any products that you have purchased from us but we love it when you do and you will receive a bonus entry for every product that you use on your project that you have bought at Scrap ‘n Stamp.
There are several ways that you can submit your card or project to us:
  • Send us an email using our Contact Us form to let us know that you have a picture you would like to share of your project and put SKETCH CHALLENGE PICTURE in the subject line. We will then send you instructions for submitting a picture of your card or project. After we receive your picture we will upload it to that month’s Sketch Challenge post and enter you in the monthly draw. We must receive your picture by the last day of the month.
  • You can mail your card or project to us at 27024 Fraser Hwy, Aldergrove, BC  V4W 3L6. Your card or picture must be received by the last day of the month.
