Tuesday Tutorial – Stenciling with Spellbinders using the New Pendants

On today’s Tuesday Tutorial, it’s Spike playing with the brand spankin’ new Spellbinders Pendants and Borderabilities! WAHOO!!

I was just sooo super excited when Kate received these super quick and I drove as fast as I could to get there!
I’ll be showing you how to stencil with Spellbinders as it’s easily forgotten after you’ve cut and embossed with your dies.
I’ll also show you have versatile these new Pendant Spellbinders are to give you a lot of creative flexibility and dimension! Oh it’s lots of fun!
Let’s begin! The Spellbinders Pendant and Borderabilities Set that I’ll be using are both called In Spades. When you crack open the any of the pendant sets, you’ll see 4 different dies all meant to work well and compliment each other. Any of those smaller 3 pendants can easily be used in the center of the larger die.

See how well they all fit?

If you decide to use them in this way, I suggest you use them with the Spellbinders Magnetic Placement Mat to keep the center die from sliding around.

To make the card in this tutorial you’ll need:

-Big Shot or Cuttlebug
PendantSupplies-Spellbinders Shapeabilites Pendants In Spades
-Spellbinders Borderabilities In Spades
-Memento Inks (Angel Pink, Lilac Posies, Rose Bud)
-Core’dinations Cardstock from the So Mod! Assortment
-Rhinestones (Hot Pink and Soft Pink)
-Sanding Block
-Piercer
-Ranger Cut n Dry Stamp Pad Foam
-3D Squares

For this tutorial, I’ll just be using the dies singly starting with the largest die.
First cut and emboss using the large die on white cardstock.

After embossing, keep the piece of paper in the die. You may need to grab a piece or two of Scotch Removable tape to secure it into place (keep in mind you need to keep the holes clear).

TapingDie

Flip it over so you have the die on top.

(I then placed it on some scrap white paper to protect the surface) Grab a piece of foam. I like to use Ranger’s Cut-n-Dry Stamp Pad Foam, that I cut into 1×2″ pieces for sponging. I like to use it because it sponges ink on smoothly and evenly. Grip the sides of the sponge and ink it on the ink pad using a circular motion.

InkingDie

Apply the ink to the “holes” in the stencil using a circular motion.

InkingDie2

After using the Angel Pink ink, I added an additional colour (Rose Bud) for accent in some areas. After the entire stencil is inked up, this is what you’ll get.

InkingDie3

I then cut out some dark pink Core’dinations cardstock using the 3 dies to see what they looked like. As these dies are smaller, I suggest to have a tool handy (such as the Tweezer Bee as it’s got a sharp tip) to help poke it out.

PendantDie4

And don’t they all just look cool? I decided not to use the piece on the right.

PendantDie5

Because they’re Core’dinations cardstock, they’re screaming to be sanded!

PendantDie6

Here’s the piece fully sanded.

For the background mat, I embossed the large pendant (to create extra dimension) on the dark Pink Core’dinations cardstock and then used the In Spades Borderablities to cut, emboss and paper pierce.

Then to finish it off stenciled with Lilac Posies.

Putting it all together using some 3D Dots and some rhinestones. Voila!

I’m totally into pink and bling today as I became an aunt yesterday to a healthy baby girl!  Be on the lookout for more pink cards! LOL!

NEW Core’dinations Color Core Cardstock

We are so excited about this cardstock! It’s an awesome new product that is going to add so much more to your paper crafting projects! So…what’s so special about core‘dinations ColorCore cardstock? A lot! This is definitely not your ordinary cardstock. Here’s why..

Click on the pictures and you will see this cardstock go from plain to embossed to WOW!!

When you sand or tear this cardstock the beautiful core color just pops right out. And…it’s a coordinating shade of the cardstock, not white! So now when you emboss and sand a die cut or tear the edges on a photo mat the color that shows automatically matches because it’s from the same color family. C

You don’t have to guess what color is inside either. Every sheet of acid/lignin free has a tab on the bottom that shows the color that’s hidden inside.

And, it gets even better! This is a premium, high end, canvas textured cardstock (back is smooth) that is heavy enough (80 lb) to use as your card base or full scrapbook page and hold up to lots of embellishment. It’s got a beautiful sheen to it as well that adds a little more depth to the colors.

It’s a fabulous cardstock for die cutting, embossing and distressing. When we took it out for a test run we couldn’t believe how easy it was to work with and how much more it added to our projects. No matter how you use it, as is or sanded & distressed this is a FANTASTIC cardstock.

We used it with Spellbinders dies, Cuttlebug embossing folders, Sizzix Texturz and a variety of Sizzix dies just to see what it could do and it was fabulous to work with. We will be posting more samples in the Gallery section soon so check back for new ideas.

It’s available in 160 sumptuous colors in Super Assortments or Color Families that make coordinating your next project a snap.

Here are some samples of what you can do with it…
