Tuesday with Tara {take 34}

Happy Tuesday!  I’m pretty excited because today I get to show you a project with a product that is coming soon to the store… and you are going to LOVE them if you haven’t already tried them and fallen in love!  That’s right, Color Burst by Ken Oliver is coming soon, and they are a fabulous powdered watercolor medium that you can do all sorts of techniques with.  I had the opportunity to take a class with Ken Oliver and we created some larger pieces, one of which was finished on a 12×12 canvas.  Today I’m showing you that piece, even though I haven’t quite decided if I will be adding more to finish it yet… here’s what I made:

We started with creating a lighter colored watercolor background on a large piece of watercolor paper, then added depth with deeper colors through a stencil.  Lots of water spritzing, dripping and a bit of detail added with a wet paintbrush… here’s some close ups of the fabulous bursts of color pigments:

I actually haven’t decided yet which way is UP on my piece, and plan to add a word or quote in the “solid” panel, which will determine the direction I suppose!  Here’s another angle:

I do love it as it is though!  And really need to add a feather stencil to my collection… but for now I have a chance for YOU to add one to yours!   Leave a comment on THIS blog post telling me your favorite COLOR!  Earn an extra chance to win by commenting on the pinned post on our facebook page as well!

Here’s the stencil that could be arriving soon in your mailbox (it’s on my wish list!):

I look forward to hearing from you this week!  Have a creative day!

Inky hugs,

Tara

Tuesday with Tara {take 7}

Hi!  Welcome back to Tuesday with Tara!

Today I’ve got a fun mixed media/altered project to share with you featuring some BRIGHT and fun Ranger products by Tim Holtz & Dina Wakley.   I was going for a summer celebration with this piece, and all the colors and textures bring a smile when I look at it!  I hope it brings a smile your way too…

This project started as a tag, but once I finished it I decided to keep going, playing with more paints, texture paste, stencils and such on a 5×7 piece of cardstock.  I enjoyed just playing without a goal in mind as far as finished project, and it definitely got me experimenting with products (even some glitter, which is not the norm for me!  I mixed it with Rock Candy Crackle Paint… kinda fun!).  When I was done with this, I had a ‘thing’ that I wasn’t sure what to do with…  but I noticed a small, sturdy box that was just slightly smaller than 5×7.  I painted it up to match the front, which I reinforced a bit and adhered to the box.

Because this was such an organic project, I don’t have any step by step details to share- but I have lots of pictures of the details and I can tell you that I used paints by Dina Wakley, Sizzix dies by Tim Holtz (mini labels and mini sand & sea) assorted stamps & stencils and Ranger’s Texture Paste.  The metallic shimmer you see on the dies is from Viva Decor.

 Hope you liked my summer brights piece, and I hope it inspires you to take some time to just PLAY and experiment with colors & textures in your stash 🙂 You just might end up creating something you love!
Have a fantastic, creative Tuesday!
Inky Hugs,
Tara
