Tuesday with Tara {take 25}

Merry Christmas!  The countdown is on and the big day is coming very soon… I hope it is a wonderful celebration for you and your family, whether you celebrate big or small 🙂

Today I have a card for you that is inspired by the cardinals I often see in our yard.  Both the embossing folder and dies are by Tim Holtz, I kept the card simple by embossing on green cardstock (next time I’ll try grey, but green seemed more festive this time around!) and painting some brown Distress Paint into the background to add some depth.  The entire background was also spritzed with Picket Fence Distress Spray to resemble falling snow.  As you can see from the green grass in the background of the photo, we haven’t gotten any snow here yet, so I suppose I’ll just be dreaming about it this year!

Touches of red, like my ribbon and the die cut word give a pop of color that hopefully helps to draw your eye to the cardinal 😉  Merry Christmas, creative friends!  Be blessed as you celebrate the season!

Inky hugs,

Tara

I’ve been busy creating and today I have THREE things to share with you!  I tend to be a last minute crafter, and figure my Christmas projects won’t exactly thrill you in the new year… so the sooner the better, right?  I was looking for inspiration and thought I’d try a version of Tim Holtz’s December tag, well I got as far as the burlap background (love it!) and was distracted and off on my way making something completely different.  I didn’t have any of his sticky back burlap at home, but I do have some cardstock backed burlap, which was great for die cutting.  Here’s what I made:

I used the negative of a Memory Box ‘merry’ die cut from a kraft card front for this card, mounting some cardstock behind the open card front.  I misted white Distress Stain Spray through a snowflake stencil (also by Memory Box- so pretty & delicate!) and stamped some snowflakes (Tim Holtz) in Aged Mahogany Distress Ink across the card.  I used some burlap snowflakes I die cut to finish it off, attached with these adorable jingle bell brads I found at a local craft store!

I love how this card turned out both elegant and rustic!

Next is a more modern card, using the word that I cut out from the first card.  I decided to go with a clean, white background but added a few stenciled details along one edge.

This card is very simple, but the texture from the burlap adds so much!  I also love the bit of bling added as my holly berries and how it matches the metallic dots on this ribbon I found 🙂

Last up is a small 3D project I wanted to do for my mantle.  I found these paper letters and knew I wanted to paint them for my holiday display… the burlap was just the thing for them.  They’ve all been painted simply in a copper metallic paint and embellished with burlap shapes (all of these are ‘minis’ by Tim Holtz, if you were wondering!).  Simple and pretty and a nice addition to my display!

So that’s a few of my burlap beauties this week 🙂  I’ve still got a few more shapes on my table that are waiting to be added to new creations… hope it gives you a little inspiration!

Have a very creative day!

Inky hugs,

Tara

Tuesday with Tara {take 23}

Happy Tuesday!  Are you starting to feel the Christmas spirit all around you?  I’ve been listening to holiday tunes, seeing people wearing (ugly?) Christmas sweaters and am starting my Christmas decorating and baking…

Today I’ve got two cards for you once again, this time they both feature the same die by Dee’s Distinctively, the Christmas Stacker Tree!  I fell in love with this die when I first saw it, it’s a lot of fun to play with and makes for easy, whimsical cards!

First up is a card featuring the die cut from paper inked up with Distress Ink over an embossed pearl background.  A kraft tag with a lovely sentiment (by Memory Box) stamped in black finish it off.  This card was very simple, but I really love it… it’s fun to play around with different combination of green inks (oooh… imagine adding the new Lucky Clover ink into the mix!)

Alright, next is a more ‘traditional’ colored card, which took much of it’s inspiration from patterned paper:

Pretty sure these were papers by BoBunny from several years ago… love those whimsical trees!  The sentiment from this card is from on of Tim Holtz’s Sizzix striplets dies.  Lots of good stuff on those!

Anywho, there you have two very different cards with the same fabulous die!  I hope it inspires you to create something similar yourself!

Have a very creative Tuesday!

Inky hugs,

Tara
