Tuesday with Tara {take 21}

Happy Tuesday!  I’ve been playing with some art journaling and  thought I’d share a seasonal piece with you, once again playing with Dina Wakley’s new holiday set!  The base of this piece is cardboard with book print (a paperback novel I paid 10 cents for!) and gesso.

I haven’t done a lot of art journaling myself, but I enjoy the freedom it gives to just play and experiment with materials and color combinations you might not normally use.

Hope you like my little winter birdie & maybe it inspires you to play!  The layout on this page may inspire some Christmas cards for me…

Happy Tuesday!

Inky hugs,

Tara

Tuesday with Tara {take 19}

It’s Tuesday again and I’ve got a card that works for Remembrance Day or Christmas.  I kept it simple, with a stamp & Distress Ink on watercolor paper as the focal point of the card.

My card background is a mixed media piece that was on my work station… I’d tried a bunch of things I didn’t like and just painted over it all with red paint.  Turns out that what started as my piece of ugly works pretty great as a background here!

The stamp is by Hero Arts, it’s a shaded solid image that I inked with multiple shades of Distress Ink and then painted with a water brush, using a bit of extra ink for shading.  More ink around the edges (Ground Espresso is my new fave brown Distress Ink!), a simple sentiment by Tim Holtz, micro bead “poppy seeds” and a big knot of ribbon finishes it off.

Hope you have a creative week and a peaceful day of Remembrance tomorrow!

Inky hugs,

Tara

Tuesday with Tara {take 18}

Happy Tuesday!  I’m sharing with you a CHRISTMAS card today, created with the new Holiday Birdies set by Dina Wakley… and I have to say, it’s adorable and a great value for a stamp & stencil set!

My bird was stamped in black Archival ink on watercolor paper (the smooth side) and colored using Distress Inks as watercolor paints (Blueprint Sketch, Mermaid Lagoon & Carved Pumpkin for the bird, Wilted Violet for the hat).  My background is a piece of watercolor left from a previous project, which matched really well with the Blueprint Sketch ink.  I inked through Tim Holtz’s Christmas words stencil with Wilted Violet onto my background, then applied texture paste through a few of the snowflakes on the stencil in the birdies set and added some glass glitter to the paste while it was wet.  I decided to add more glass glitter to the hat as well, applying Waterfall Stickles to double as adhesive & extra bling!

The card was assembled with some torn watercolor paper as a snow pile and a generous tie of Wilted Violet Crinkle ribbon 🙂  Foam squares to mount the bird add a bit of lift and allowed me to shape the hat a bit as well.

Hope you like my little card!  I think I’ll be doing a few of these in different colors for fun… who knows, I may actually get some Christmas cards sent this year!

Have a creative day,

Inky hugs,

Tara
