Tuesday with Tara {take 427} This calls for coffee

Happy Tuesday!  It seems like all of North America is facing a cold spell right now… this calls for COFFEE!  Today I’m sharing a fun monochromatic card I made for a coffee loving friend’s birthday.

I had fun digging through my supplies (and the scraps on my desk!) for blue pieces I could use for this card.  My coffee cup is from the fabulous Papercut Cafe die set by Tim Holtz.  I cut it from a scrap of Knit Picky Winter Patterned Paper by Lawn Fawn (also used on the middle layer on this card!) along with some other blue scraps, including a fun glittery piece.  I paired it with a white embossed sentiment by  Catherine Pooler.

The background of the front panel features the honeycomb from one of Tim Holtz’s mini stencil sets and some sparkle texture paste.  The bottom layer is from Vicki Boutin’s 6×8 Ready to Use Mixed Media paper.  The stitched layers were cut with the Prism Nesting Stitched Rectangles, which rarely leave my desk these days!  I finished it all off with some blue crinkle ribbon, inked up with a whole lot of Prize Ribbon Distress Ink (seriously, I think my ink pad got double inked so I tried to use some of it up on ribbon!).
I love all the fun textures in this card that I got from using a variety of materials and patterns, all working together because of the simple color palette.  Hope you like it too!
Inky hugs,
Tara

Tuesday with Tara {take 413} Autumn Blessings

Happy Tuesday!  Today’s make is a tag bringing autumn blessings… but not just any autumn blessings, glowing ones 😉

After the spooky fun I had with the GLOW Grit Paste for our Ghostly Greetings Hop (missed it?  See it HERE) I wanted to try something different with my colorize pumpkins!  I paired them with a sentiment from one of my favorite autumn sets by MFT and had some pattern matching fun with this gorgeous lace frame stencil by Brutus Monroe.

I used pieces of ready-to-use Mixed Media Card stock by Vicki Boutin to cut parts of my pumpkins & the panel for the sentiment.  I chose to layer up just the short pumpkin and cut the tall one from a part of the paper that had a pretty foil design on it.  The stenciling was pieced together in stages so I wouldn’t smear the paste while it was still wet.  I played up the gold elements on the pumpkins by painting a bit of gold perfect pearls in the open spaces on the tag, as well as adding a bit around the edges of the sentiment.  I did this by simply dipping a wet brush into the perfect pearls powder, mixing on my Kraft sheet and painting!

Everything is simple, but elegant… but it gets fun when the lights go out:

Look at it GLOW!  This grit paste is so much fun and really unexpected when you first glance at it!  It definitely adds a new level of fun to your projects 🙂 I hope you love it!

Inky hugs,

Tara

Tuesday with Tara {take 398} Colorful Life

Happy Tuesday!

I did a LIVE demo on Facebook last Thursday featuring Vicki Boutin’s Ready-to-use Mixed Media Paper pad & ‘Just Add Color’ stamps by Gina K Designs.  I worked with a few coordinating colors of Distress Inks & a black ink pad.  The goal was to make some quick & simple cards with these gorgeous papers.

I shared one card on my Instagram yesterday, and it’s on my personal blog as well- please stop by one of those places to check it out 😉

This pretty card features on of the designed papers with gold foil accents- with the splashes of yellow it just screamed summertime for me, and I hope you like it too!  I die cut a few white pieces for the sentiments prior to the live, and this circle was a nice fit for the smaller paint swatch and some circles.  These background designs are a really fun way to add color quickly & easily!  I chose to tie it all together with a black card base & some black ribbon.  I think those dark elements really add nice contrast to the bright shades of yellow & pink!

Here’s a peek at the supplies I used (black ribbon & sequins aren’t pictured)!

This is a simple one layer ‘bonus’ card I made using one of the mixed media papers folded in half, with 1/2″ trimmed off so it will fit in an A2 envelope (like the pink one I set it on for this photo).  The design was in shades of pink, so I added to it a bit with more pink Distress Ink using the circles and small brushstroke stamp.  I finished it off with the small ‘hello’ stamped in black.

There’s so much potential in this paper pad, I think I’ll have fun creating with it!

Inky hugs,

Tara
