TBT – Last but Not Least

Hi There!! Happy Thursday!!  Well, it’s time for THE LAST, but certainly not the least, challenge technique at the Compendium of Curiosities 3 Challenge Blog—

—Challenge #34, Tim’s Layering Stencil Monoprint technique.  This last technique is found on page 48 of Tim’s Compendium of Curiosities 3, and you’ve needed to work from your own copy to participate in this challenge series.  It’s definitely a must-have book for your creative library!  And even though the challenge is headed into its final sunset, the inspiration found in Tim’s book is eternal!!

And speaking of eternal–Thank You to Linda at Studio L3 for hosting and coordinating this challenge for the past 68 weeks and Thank You to the Extremely Talented Ladies of the Curiosity Crew who continuously inspired challenge after challenge, topping each and every one of their CC3 creations with the next!!

It’s been fun and creatively rewarding to craft through the pages of Tim’s latest tome, and I wanted to do something lasting to close the book with, so to speak —😉🙂

I altered a Tazo Tea tin to hold crafting goodies or little keepsakes or whatever I can fit in there!!  Let me take you through some of the steps, that I can share, in repurposing this tin for this last CC3 challenge.

Here’s  my Tazo Tea tin in all of its labeled glory!  I stripped the label off with a combination of soaking in soapy water, then rubbing with something called ‘Goof Off’ to remove the rest of the label adhesive.  I washed and dried the tin, lightly sanded the surface, then applied a dry brushing of white gesso over the surface.

I ‘measured’ a couple of pieces of mixed-media paper to wrap around the tin, and stitched together with my sewing machine.

And like magic–There’s my Layering Stencil Monoprint background!  I created this little scene using the Rays, Burlap and Measured Layering Stencils and all kinds of Distress Inks.

I’m using my favorite flower image in Tim’s Flower Garden stamp set to adorn my tin with.  I heat embossed the cone flower image onto the panels with Jet Black Archival ink and black embossing powder.  I colored the centers of the flowers with Walnut Stain DI and my water brush.

Behind the scenes, I stamped the cone flowers and stems onto pieces of mixed-media paper and water colored with Distress Markers and my water brush.  I could have sworn I snapped a separate picture of the stems, too–but they’re there out of shot somewhere!!  When I fussy cut these flowers out, I sprayed them with Sunflower Sparkle Perfect Pearls Mist to give them a little shimmer.

I wrapped the tin with my stitched panels and adhered with a combo of double-backed tape and matte Decou-Page.  I started adding the fussy cut cone flower heads  and stems in place and adhered with matte Decou-Page.

I made a separate panel for the top of the tin, and worked on this panel on the side as I was working on the other panels for the body of the tin.

I treated all of the sides of the tin the same with Botanical Rem-Rubs, Small Talk or Big Chat stickers and some ink spritzing and paint splattering.

I outlined the image of the flower and the small talk sticker with Black Soot DI and my water brush.  I heat set then outlined again with my white gel pen.

I used my air art tool with my Black Soot DM and spritzed ink all over the surfaces and heat set.

I also splattered Scattered Straw DP over the surfaces with a round water color brush and heat set that, too.

I trimmed a piece of Menagerie paper stash to attach to the bottom of the tin–this is mainly to camouflage all of the printing that’s on the bottom on the tin.

And that’s all folks!!  I’ve now got a nicely decorated tin that I can use for a myriad of purposes!!
