Distress Oxide

Tuesday with Tara {take 144}

Happy Tuesday!

Is it feeling a bit like spring where you live?  I’m seeing photos of flowers blooming (between snowfalls) all across Canada and the US- and I’m hearing birds chirping regularly in my own back yard!  I decided to pull out some of my favorite stamps, these scribbly birds by Dina Wakley, and make a springy card.

I wanted to try a reverse watercolor technique, but mixed it up a bit by using Distress Oxide as my ‘paint’ for it.  (I rubbed the ink pad on my craft sheet and misted with water, then painted with a water brush.) It gives a unique milky sort of look, but the color is so pretty and vibrant!  The birds were stamped in Archival Ink on a heavy white card stock, so I didn’t want to use too much water and warp my paper.

The background of my card features a large background stamp I forgot I owned (love finding those treasures!), which I inked up with Distress Oxide as well since it’s so amazing stamped on kraft… I love the mottled look I got by splattering it with some water afterwards!  I finished it all off with some splattering of ink in both the ink colors (peacock feathers & abandoned coral)

Whenever I’m trying something new I tend to do it twice just in case one of them looks awful… both my stamped panels turned out, so I decided to make a second, smaller card as well.  This one has a slightly smaller front panel with a stamped detail along the right inside panel.

This distressed dot border is also by Dina Wakley.  Love it with Distress Oxide on Kraft!

Here’s my two cards together- they’re very similar, but make a nice little card pair for spring!  I hope you like them!

Wishing you sunny days and chirping birds… and a spring that starts to feel like spring real soon!

Inky hugs,

Tara

Happy Tuesday!

I woke up this morning to find snow on the ground again… so I’m sharing with you a winter card which includes a hint of spring (or summer) that many of us are dreaming of!

Yep, Snowflakes & Butterflies!  I love this saying and when I pulled this stamp from one of my storage folders (I love the Stuftainers by Stampendous for my cling stamps) a card concept started forming for me… I wanted a wintery colored card with this design, a snowflake background and these awesome layered “Beautiful Butterflies” stamp & die sets by My Favorite Things.  Unfortunately, I have no idea who makes the sentiment (it’s a problem with cling stamps!  I usually try to organize them by brand, but this was in a misc. Christmas/winter folder).  If it looks familiar to you, please let me know and I’ll update!

My card is very simple- a gorgeous embossed background on pearl white card stock with the sentiment stamped in grey archival ink on a dusty green card stock.  The butterflies were stamped primarily with Cracked Pistachio Distress Ink & Distress Oxide- it was fun to see how the two variations of the same color played together.  The larger butterfly has a layer of Broken China Distress Oxide to add a bit of pop.  The final detail layer was stamped in the same grey as my sentiment, then a bit of glitter finishes them off.  I added Nuvo Glitter Drops (in Blizzard, of course!) to the butterfly bodies and a few spots on the snowy background as well.  A touch of Rock Candy Distress Stickles adds that extra touch of shine.

It’s nice to know I can use my butterflies year round… even though I’m done with winter, I don’t mind looking at them on this wintery card 🙂

Thanks for visiting (and reading to the end)!  I’m excited to announce that we’ll be back on Saturday with a fun BLOG HOP for you!  Hope you’ll plan to join us starting right here on Saturday!

Have a creative day!

Inky hugs,

Tara

Tuesday with Tara {take 132}

Happy Tuesday!

Today’s card is a simple one I created to showcase the beautiful blending you can achieve with Distress Oxide Inks through a stencil… it’s so pretty!  I used a Tim Holtz music stencil and selected three colors of Distress Oxide, Cracked Pistachio, Broken China & Wilted Violet.  I started by taping the stencil to my paper with washi tape and began with the blue, which would be my middle color.  My blend was most intense in the center, then I lightened it slightly where the colors would overlap.  I love the variety of shades you can create as you blend these vibrant colors together!  Here’s a peek at what I saw before I lifted the stencil…

I wanted this background to be the focal point of my card, and these tiny die cut birds by Memory box seemed like a perfect addition, cut from glittery paper.

I added a few spotss of Nuvo Glitter Drops to the music notes for some extra texture… and tied everything together with a bit more blue- a strip of glitter paper and a simple sentiment (love this one by Impression Obsession!) on a die cut panel stamped in the same Distress Oxide Ink.  A simple wrap of thin jute finished off the card with a touch of purple.

I love the gradient of colors through this stencil and am inspired to create a series of them with a variety of color combinations.  Hope you like it too 🙂

Inky hugs,

Tara
