An Optical Illusion

Hi Everyone! It’s Susan here with a card that I hope doesn’t make you nauseous.  I apologize for the picture quality but I had a hard time getting a good picture.

I had a ton of fun making this card but when I showed it to my hubby, daughter and her friend they all said it was ‘freaking their eyes out’.  So my apologies if this card ‘freaks your eyes out’.

I started with some black & white angled striped paper from My Favorite Things and cut it into 1/4′ strips.  I glued them onto a piece of card stock offsetting the stripes.  I used a stitched rectangle die from Lawn Fawn to make the panel. I layered it onto a white card base with some craft foam.

I die cut the elephant from MFT’s Safari Party Die Set out of the straight black & white striped paper from the same MFT paper pack. I also cut the elephant 3x from white card stock, layered them all together, added the striped elephant on top and then added that to the card.  The little googly eye is from a pack of eye I bought ages ago from the dollar store – I need to use them more as I think they’re kind of cute.

I die cut the heart balloons and strings from MFT’s Heart Balloons Die set and adhered them directly to the panel tucking the strings inside the elephants trunk.

I went back and forth on the sentient but finally settled on a simple Happy Birthday from an older MFT Essential Sentiments set. I used my stamp positioning tool to stamp it since I was tucking it in very close to the panel and really only had one shot to get it right – another great reason to have a stamp positioning tool besides the many other reasons. (Just in case you needed another reason to talk yourself into one – I love mine and use it ALL the time.)

I really like this card – it makes me think of the mobiles for cribs that were all black & white and geometric shapes. They were all the rage for a while – my youngest is 21 so I’m not sure what’s the trend for those anymore.

Thanks for hanging out with me today and I hope you’re not feeling nauseous and your eyes aren’t freaking out.

Happy Stampin’
and thanks so much for visiting!!
