Watercolour Friendship Card

Hello, friends and happy Saturday!  I hope you’ll be able to find some crafty time this weekend!  It’s been a dreary week here so to help brighten my day, I made a bright, cheery floral card featuring products from My Favourite Things and some simple watercolour!

I started by clear heat embossing the beautiful flower from the Beautiful Bloom Stamp Set from MFT onto a piece of watercolour paper. (This is a small yet very mighty set.)  I decided to use my Zig Gansai Tambi Watercolours for the painting.  I haven’t used this set of paints in so long and I don’t know why, they are gorgeous!

I used only one colour for this. By adding more or less water, you can get a variety of shades.  Because I heat embossed the image, it’s very easy to stay inside the lines.  I almost always do this when I watercolour.  I don’t have very much control :).  They key, which I have a hard time doing, is not overworking the paint or water.  Just add the colour and let it do its thing!  I was worried at this point as it looked…not very good.  But as it dries, the colours soften and look more blended.

You can see how it looks when it starts to dry.  I wasn’t sure where I was going with this card but I decided to use the co-ordinating die to cut the flower out.  To make this a little bit different and interesting, I cut the flower in half.  It measures approximately 3.5 inches so I cut it at 1.75 inches.

I wanted to add some texture to the card, so I die cut the Cross Stitch Rectangle die from white cardstock.  I placed my two floral pieces on top to find the approximate centre so I could remove a section of the panel.  The idea here is to stamp a sentiment in between the two floral pieces. Like this…

I glued the two pieces of the cross stitch panel directly onto a white card base.  I stamped a sentiment from the From The Heart stamp set in the middle of these two pieces with Versafine Onyx Black Ink.  The flower were mounted with foam adhesive.

It definitely needed a pop of green.  I took a leaf die from the Rustic Wildflowers Die Set (co-ordinates with the Rustic Wildflowers Stamp Set).  I added a bit of white gel pen detail on the leaves and added some clear sequins for a bit of added interest.

I’m pretty happy with the way this card turned out. Even though the watercolouring is super simple, it sure makes a statement.

Thank you so much for stopping by today! Have a great weekend!!

Laurie
