Tuesday with Tara {take 384} A Paper Hug

Happy Tuesday!  Today I’m sharing a quick & easy mini slimline card inspired by the Paper Hug sentiment stamp by Picket Fence stamps!  I’ve paired the sentiment with this sweet snowman die cut by Penny Black, called Snowman Joy.   I die cut him out of watercolor card stock and added some subtle touches of color with watercolor pencils.

I was playing around with some watercolor paints recently, and painted this ombre panel on a scrap of watercolor card stock.  It was fun to play around with blending and ended up being a perfect background for my snowman!  I layered it simply on teal cardstock (it was literally a scrap that already had a torn edge).  Uncharted Mariner Distress Oxide ink ended up being a beautiful match to my pieces, so the sentiment was stamped on white with it.  It’s simple & whimsical and I hope it brings a smile your way!

Inky hugs,

Tara

Tuesday with Tara {take 383} Wild About Pink

Happy Tuesday!  Sometime mid-January I start to think about moving on to the next holiday with my cards & home decor, so I’m sharing another fun throwback.  Today’s card has some Valentine’s Vibes and a fun twist on a tropical stamp set, Toucan Paradise by Concord & 9th!  I pulled out a mix of pink, coral & orange Distress Oxide Inks (the newer color, Kitsch Flamingowould be a great addition!) for a fun slimline card!

It felt really good to pull out these tropical stamps and cheerful colors in the middle of some chilly weather!  I used the three colors you see above, Picked Raspberry, Abandoned Coral & Crackling Campfire (along with black & white) in Distress Oxide on the card base and with regular Distress Ink on the toucan (I found I lost some of the detail on his beak with Distress Oxides).  There’s a ton of great images in the set- flowers & leaves & fun texture stamps.  I dug through other stamp sets to find a tiny heart to add in a few of those.

I was tickled when I looked at the Picket Fence Slimline dies and looked at the tree window sideways and noticed it was perfect as branches for my bird to sit on!  My card base is the same oatmeal color as the top layer, but I did a bit of ink blending in Raspberry & Coral, then stenciled some hearts with Picket Fence Distress over it.  The top layer was adhered to the base card with some foam adhesive squares to make the background stand out a bit more.

I heat embossed the large sentiment, which was great for a tall card like this one, with Distress Embossing Glaze in Crackling Campfire over Versamark (clear) ink.

Do you enjoy making cards for Valentine’s Day? I have to confess, even through my many years as a single woman, I’ve always loved making fun Valentine’s and coming up with new ways to use my stamps to celebrate love & friendship!

Inky hugs,

Tara

Tuesday with Tara {take 382} a Whittle Throwback

Happy Tuesday, friends!

Poppy Stamps has an adorable collection of “whittle” stamps that we celebrated a while back with a blog hop… today I’m throwing back to share my cards!   I chose one set of dies to work – the adorable Whittle Cactus Trio.  I’ve been trying to develop my green thumb as of late, and these seemed like a really fun way to work that into my card making!   I started out inking up some shades of green on Cardstock and then cut the trio out several times.  Since they are so tiny (the biggest of the trio is just 1.4″ tall) I doubled them all up two layers thick with some glue.  Then the ideas started flowing… so I made TWO cards to share with you today!

For the first card, I used a scrap of corrugated card stock to create a little planter for my cacti.  I experimented with several colors of Distress Paint, but my final product is primarily Crackling Campfire Distress Paint.  It makes a fabulous terra cotta pot!  Once I had the design, I inked up some book print for my background.  This is a simple ombre mix of Salvaged Patina & Peacock Feathers Distress Ink.

I finished off the card with a cute little burlap flower embellishment and a sentiment from an awesome set by Heffy Doodle called Everyday Sentiment Duos.  It’s a super versatile set with a simple font you can dress up or down depending what you pair it with.  I inked the two parts of the ‘new home’ sentiment separately here, adding the smaller font on my card base & the larger font on Kraft across the top of the card.  Lastly, I splattered a bit of white paint for fun.

My second card uses the same elements as my first, but I positioned the cactus trio in a frame I made using one of the windows from the slimline die set by Picket Fence Studios.  I experimented with a variety of colors on this as well, finally adding Abandoned Coral Distress Ink to the mix (which is why it looks a bit dark & dirty compared to how vibrant it normally is!).  I stamped over the frame in the same coral ink with the MFT best friends cling background stamp.

Another sentiment from the Sentiment Duos (embossed with Rustic Wilderness Distress Embossing Glaze) seemed like a great compliment to the design.

I had a scrap of watercolor paper that I’d painted a wash of yellows & oranges on, so I added a touch of the coral and used it as the base for my frame.  A little bit of yellow twine wrapped around the frame added a bit of fun texture.  I also played around with another burlap blossom, added ink and glue and formed it into a bloom for one of my cacti!

Aren’t they some of the cutest little cacti you’ve ever seen?   I encourage you to take some extra time during these cold winter days to nurture some ‘green’ things in your home!  Perhaps it’ll encourage spring to come a little sooner 😉

Inky hugs,

Tara
